I set up a used RCS DVR 80 that works fine. I set up the phone line, downloaded the local numbers, and can make test calls all day long. But when I try a daily call it connects, then fails during the download process. (the used unit is at 3.1.1c)

Now I have Vonage and have used the settings described in that thread. Since my test calls and such work fine I am not sure if I have a Vonage problem.

Any idears?

( I would post this in the Vonage thread but it hasn't been posted too in a while..)

A DTivo doesn't need to even make a daily call as long as you order the PPVs via the website instead of your remote. Unlike the SA Tivos, the DTivo gets all of its guide data from the satellite.

If you continue to purchase PPVs and the box cannot "phone home" it will eventually disable itself.

With no phone line a nag screen will appear (when you go into the menus) daily after 30 days or so but you can dismiss it and use the box as normal.

If you get tired of the nag screens then take it to Aunt Bessie's house and temporarily hook it to her phone line and TV and have it phone home.

And, make sure you delete those nag "emails" regularly. When too many accumulate, they wreak havoc.

Another option would be to pull the drive and run the zipper script. It will never need to be connected to a landline again.

Actually - that is what I bought this unit for, to hack and upgrade it. I also have a DVR 120 but did not want to "operate" on it in case I screw something up.

The only reason I have been trying to have it make the call is I hoped it would get the 6.2 OS.

I guess I'll just get the Instant Cake stuff and Zip it.

The call is probably failing during the download of 6.2. 6.2 is downloaded in slices, so you may eventually get it all bycontinuing to make daily calls. This is assuming that it does stay connected for at least 10-15 minutes.

That is exactly what I was hoping was happening. Any way to find out just what is going on during call such as a call log?
