I have a Series 2 Tivo 40, not modified in anyway, but the drive has crashed. Is there a thread somewhere on where to get an image to load on a replacement drive? I don't mind reconfiguring all my settings and would be happy to replace with even a 40 instead of cranking up the size.
I have another Tivo 40 also that does not have a problem can I copy the image from that drive and just install a new harddrive?

I have a question on similar lines but don't have much tech knowledge. My series two 40 hr just crashed. I am desperate to retrieve the programs off the drive that I have already recorded. I was going to go out & buy a newer version but can anyone tell me where I can get someone, and how I can get someone, to transfer my hard drive & not lose all my favorite recorded programs? Thanks, I'll get up to speed eventually.

It depends on the models that you have. Look at the TiVo service number. If the first three digits are the same, you can copy the image from one to the other using mfstools. If they are not the same, the only one you can do this with is 140 and 240.

If your TiVo stopped working, more than likely it is the hard drive that is the problem. If it is not the hard drive, you cannot move it to another TiVo and still play the programs. Basically, your programs are lost unless you fix the current TiVo. This may not be easy unless the power supply is the problem.
