View Full Version : Two Component Video Sources into one input?

Please excuse what may be a very dumb question. My TV only has one set of component video inputs (and no HDMI). I have two video sources that can output in component video (HR10 and DVD). Are there any devices (that work with little signal degradation) that I can use to plug into my TV's sole component video input that will accept the two component video inputs? In other words, one set of male component video plugs, and two set of female component video inputs?

If so, can anyone recommend a particular brand and where I can buy it? Thanks.

You need a component A/V switcher. Three of my favorites:

Also, there was a pretty extensive thread on this topic that started about a year ago (maybe more). I am pretty sure a search here (including the archives if needed) of "component video switch" would do the trick.

My A/V receiver has a built-in component video switch. If you don't currently have a surround sound receiver you could get one with that feature and also upgrade your audio while you're at it. :)

I have one that I bought from WallyWorld for around $30 that works pretty well. I don't use it on my main HT setup, but I needed it for my DirecTV receiver and DVD player in the bedroom.

No apparent signal degredation for SD viewing on a 25" tube TV. Dunno how well it will work w/ higher end equipment. One nice feature is that it auto-senses the active input and will switch to the most recently "turned-on" device. In other words, I leave the DirecTivo on at all times, but when I power up the DVD player, it switches automatically. Turn the DVD off, and it goes back to the other input.
