I am interested in the dvrupgrade but have several questions. I would like to be positive that I do not need a phone line for my "daily call" I pay for my tivo service through directv will that effect my account with them. Any help with this matter would be appreciated thanks :confused:

If you do not order pay for view or special events your access card will not load up and you will not need daily calls. If you do order pay for view the access card will load up and your Tivo will no longer work.

Alternative: you can always order your PPV programming through the Directv website.

I just got the dvr704, love it and as stated you can order ppv on website and avoid phone call and additional charges.

I have had the DSR708 for a few years now. I love it.

I do not have a phone line that I can run to my TV cabinet easily at all and thus buy PPV via the web (its almost easier anyways!).

The only problem is that unlike my old normal receiver the tivo will start throwing a message once a day after i think 30 days that it has not made its daily call. You just press select and it goes away.

A little annoyance, but I have gotten used to it and I think the counter is up to like 188 days that it has not made a call :p
