Tivo sounds, menu doesn't pop up

I can change the channel, I can get "info", I can "pause" live TV, it even indicates that it's taping -- however, if I push the Tivo icon button, I only hear the Tivo sound and no menu appears. If I push "guide" I hear the sound, but no guide appears. What's going on?

There are many weird situations that a TiVo can get into. These can be fixed with a simple restart or reboot.

BTW, I've never seen my TiVo taping anything. :D
