Can I use this old stuff?

I have an old SVR-2000 (Sony Series One TiVo) and an old Hughes Direct TV Receiver that gets over-the-air HD signals. Can I use the IR blaster of the TiVo to change channels on this box, but not have the Direct TV subscription? I assume I could just set-up the TiVo as if I do have Direct TV and eliminate the channels I won't receive except for the over-the-air channels, but I've never had Direct TV, so don't know how this works. I got this box at a yard sale for the HD tuner, but don't know if TiVo can control it this way.... Anyone know?

As far as I know, a DirecTv box will not work AT ALL without a subscription and a valid access card (which is part of the subscription)

Amended... a DirecTivo box will play recorded shows without a current subscription or even being connected, but still requires an access card

The box you describe, a receiver only, has nothing recorded to show and... as far as I know... will not work without a subscription

But... if there is an access card with the box... just go ahead and see if it will work for the OTA signal

I have a Direct TV box, no card, and it will work for displaying HD over-the-air signals - nothing else. I have a separate stand-alone series one TiVo and I'm hoping to control the channel changing of the Direct TV box with this TiVo. Hope that clarifies what I want to do.

Note that the user does not have any DirecTiVos.

He has a HD DirecTV reciever and a Stand alone series one TiVo.

The TiVo should be able change channels on the HD receiver, however not the digital ones. It knows nothing of subchannels.

at leat the old hughes WILL work as a tuner for OTA.

And as a tuner for cable tv as well (non-HD).
