Here's my setup. I have a powered 5x8 multiswitch which is fed with 4 lines from my HD (oval) dish. I want to add a second DTivo in one location where I already have one. Can I simply take 2 of my lines (that are being used for the current DTivo) and put them into a 2x4 multiswitch to feed the old and new one or do I have to get 2 more lines (I have 2 more open slots) run directly from the 5x8 multiswitch to the location of the second Dtivo? Thanks.

You can do as you suggest if you only need the channels on the 101 satellite. Otherwise you need to run two more lines.

You have to run two (2) from the multiswitch to each DVR to be able to use both tuners on each.
Since you have the HD dish, im assuming it's the AT-9, so you are using more than 1 satellite.

I have the old oval HD dish which I thought was not the AT-9. I only have the NY localsa and NY national HD. Which satellites are those on?

If you have 4 lines coming out of your dish, you need to use only 4xN multi switches. It you tried to use a 2x4 I am not sure if it would work. If it did you would likelly loose many channels. I think ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX for NY would be on the 101 sat, but other NY stations would not likely be available. I think you would also loose HD
Note that this would be for both of your DirecTiVos in the room where you used the 2x4.

All network SD channels are on the 101. However, your locals may be on the 119. Network HD is on 101 and 119 I think. In which case you'll need the 4x switch as stated above or if you have open outputs on your 5x8 then you'll need to run two more to the TiVos locations. Please tell us what TiVos you have and your programming package.
