I'd like to get HD television (have an HDTV), but don't want to spent $800 for the new series 3 + go thru the hassle of dealing with the 2 cards + originally they said I could transfer my pre-paid monthly fee, and now they want $199 to transfer it.

Anyhow I wondered if there's a way I can use both my TIVO Series 2 + a Comcast DVR. The comcast unit would record HD stuff I want, but I could continue to have my TIVO Ser 2 find all the other programs that it's so good at doing.

The TIVO would have to drive the Comcast unit so it got to record what it decided on, but the Comcast unit would have to be able to record on its own when i programed it. Anybody know it this is possible?

thanks,
Judy

Does the Comcast box have two tuners? Can you watch one show and record another with it? I think it might be troublesome getting the two boxes to behave if they each wanted to record something different.

I installed a cable splitter wiith cable to both Tivo and the Comcast DVR (both then connect directly to the TV). Advantage is that Tivo can record while the Comcast DVR is also recording (w/ its 2 tuners). Disadvantage is I think that the Tivo can then get only "basic" (i.e. analog, lower) channels (typically below 100). To setup channel lineup, you'd specify cable (w/o cable box). I used the Comcast box just for HD (or any other digital channels), Tivo for everything else.

It is counter intuitive to have one DVR (TiVo) control another one. Use each unit separately.
