My roommates and I literally have 2 shows a week which conflict. One roommate just got her parents' old Tivo Box (still a series 2 tho). I'd like to be able to use it just to record the conflicting shows by time/channel manually, however it won't let me do even that without having a new account. Is there any workaround here? For example, if I signed up for a 2nd account, set up the manual recordings, and then canceled the 2nd account, would the manual recordings continue? Or is there something else I don't know?

No. An S2 tivo needs to be subscribed to be useful.

I was wondering something similar. If I had a second series two without a sub (I already have one with) could I transfer shows between them (from my main one to the new one) without a subscription?
I really don't need to record anything on the other one, one is fine, but my daughter is always watching a DVD and I dont' feel like transfering each show to DVD on the computer then watching it, it takes too lont.
Thanks

series 2 or 3 cannot be used for anything but watching live tv or previously recorded stuff
no transferring or anything

To transfer files between two TiVos both need to have a subscription. Even the TiVos which come with free TiVoBasic will not allow transfers without one.

I have done some searching, but seem to be missing the thread that may contain the answer to this question, so this is closest thread I could find. Can two separate Tivos, with their own respective subscriptions, geographically separated, share recorded programs? My daughter lives in another city and works in the TV industry. I would like to be able to view her locally produced shows in that city, which I can not get in mine. She has a series 2, as do I.

No, both TiVos need to be on the same network.

You can't transfer over long distance at this time.
A sling box will likely be the thing to watch programs from the distant Tivo.

You could use Tivo To Go and watch on a PC, or save to DVD.
