Hoping someone can verify this for me. I currently have my HD Tivo hooked into my living room plasma via component and optical audio to my receiver. I am looking into an LCD TV for my bedroom. Can I run an HDMI cable from the Tivo into the LCD for video and audio without any issues? I don't want to see on both TVs at the same time, just want to be able to watch it in the bedroom as well as avoid getting a separate HR20. Also, what's the best way to run an IR extender/repeater into the bedroom? I noticed there is an IR minijack on the back of the Tivo, would I use that? Would like any suggestions. Thanks very much!

The HR10-250 does not support simultaneous use of its component and HDMI outputs. If the HDMI cable is connected, then the component outputs are disabled. However, the new non-Tivo HR20 HD DVR does support using both outputs simultaneously.

However, the new non-Tivo HR20 HD DVR does support using both outputs simultaneously. This is certainly the prevailing opinion. My HR10-250 is clearly an alien artifact as it works fine, as the OP has described his requirement.

To view both TVs at the same time (not the OP's requirement) a hack is needed.

Both these uses (2 connected TV's used one at a time, and used simultaneously) are widely discussed here.

I have my HD TiVo connected to two monitors -- one via HDMI and the other via component. While they both won't display video at the same time, no cable plugging/unplugging is necessary -- when I want to watch the monitor that is connected via component, I just turn OFF the one that's connected via HDMI.

This functionality seems to vary by manufacturer though. In the above situation, the HDMI is connected to a Sony monitor. I've also tried it with a Sharp, and in that case, the HD TiVo component out would turn on not only when the Sharp was off, but when a different video input (on the Sharp) was selected. I suppose there could be some sets where even with it off, it wouldn't work.

I don't want to watch both at the same time, seems I can't do that. I just want to be able to watch in the bedroom when I'm done in the living room. According to videojanitor, this seems like it will work. Only thing I need to figure out is how to extend the IR signal from the Tivo to my bedroom. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

I have my HR10-250 installed in a wiring closet and connected by component to two HDTVs. Both TVs are Sony and will allow me to use the HDMI connector and the component connection to the other TV however, the TVs are located 30 and 55 feet from the wiring closet and I found that HDMI has a problem sending a signal that far.

My solution is to use a Component HDTV distribution amp made by CE labs. The part number is AV400COMP and it allows a single input from the HR10-250 and 4 outputs up to 300 feet. It cost about $100.

I use an IR repeater I purchased at Radio Shack to control the HR10-250. I purchased 2 IR repeaters because I needed a transmitter at each TV. The IR repeaters cost about $40 each and they control both the HR10-250 and a ReplayTV I have mounted also in the wiring closet and connected to both TVs.

I use this device that I found at Weaknees:

http://www.weaknees.com/rf-remote-details.php

It'll turn any remote into an RF remote. It works, though I have found that it requires a lot of tinkering with the position of the antenna and the IR "blaster."

I use this solution and they work very well. Relatively inexpensive too.

Get the full set for less than $50.

If you are asking about my HDTV distribution amp, I purchased it on Ebay. Here is a link:

If you are asking about the Radio Shack IR extender:

I am going to use a component AV amp from ebay along with video baluns to extended the component feed over a single CAT5E cable to the LCD monitor in the kitchen.

I use component out from the HD tivo through my AV receiver.

I dont use HDMI.

http://www.svideo.com has baluns.

I ordered: http://www.svideo.com/1080i.html

If your remote LCD doesnt support digital audio, then you would have to run another set of baluns to extend the audio to that same location.

I was wondering how this setup you proposed worked out? How is the video and audio quality? I would like to do this with 3 total TV's.
