Not unless you have hacked the unit before hand.

There isn't any reason why the unit couldn't be hacked after the program was deleted. Tivoweb and edittitle will let you undelete a program.

However, there is a good chance that the program may get partially overwritten before you can do it.

True, but it usually takes a while before this occurs. I've been able to recover shows weeks after they were deleted. Then again, I have my Tivos upgraded with larger hard drives so the chances of a show getting overwritten in short order are greatly diminished. If the drive is the stock 40GB model then I would not wait before hacking the unit or the show will probably get overwritten very quickly. If you have Tivo Suggestions turned on the you're probably already screwed as the Tivo will record suggestions until the drive is full.

Your original point was you could only undelete if you previously hacked your unit. A show getting partially overwritten has nothing to do with when you hacked your tivo. Tivo generally deletes the older shows first. I'll agree a hacked unit is more likely to have a larger hard drive but most people should be able to undelete a show, even with a stock drive, if they don't wait too long.
My answer would be different if the user is automatically recording suggestions. This is one reason I don't automatically record suggestions.
edited to say if your unit isn't already at least partially hacked you'll have to pull the hard drive from your tivo and temporarily put it in a PC. You'll need to boot from a linux CD. Probably not worth it just to undelete one show.

Thanks for the quick response. I think I will just try to be more careful in the future. I did upgrade this thing to 140 hours with a kit from Digital Recorder. I don't think I want to get in to anything more involved.

The Tivo interface does ask you if you're sure you want to delete before selecting 'yes' :)
