I haven't been following the S3 lately. Has there been any movement on when of if MRV will be allowed with the S3 units? Still thinking about switching from DirecTV back to cable and MRV with the S3 is one of the things that will push me back to cable quicker.

No. And nobody is saying anything so there is no idea if or when MRV will happen.

Quite honestly I could care less about MRV, I want eSATA.

I want both! And if they do ever enable MRV, hopefully they can also get multiple TiVo's to do cooperative scheduling.

MRV is much more important to me than eSata. My lovely wife has to get the show she wants on the TV she wants to watch it on. Once you have MRV and a half dozen 750 gig hard drives what is the attraction of eSata? You can archive stuff on hard drives. That's what I do with the DirecTiVos.
