Both SATA and PATA were on sale. I picked up a PATA 500G and did my HR10-250 over the weekend.

Cheers!

You may want to check your local Frys store.

I went there tonight and found that a few of these drives had been returned while the promotion was on and had been marked down based on the $149 price!

The shelf had a lot of the drives for $249, with a few "returned units" marked down to $141 or $142

I figured they would kick up a stink, but they agreed to sell me one for $142, and it is covered by the full 5 year Seagate warranty!

Sounds good to me

For those of you in the South Bay area of CA, Frys on Hamilton Ave. San Jose still had 2 of these left this afternoon at the marked down price of about $142 (same price as I bought one for last night)

Fry's Outpost had the 750GB on sale last week for something around $300, so I picked one of those up and put it in my HR10-250.

So it gave you like, what approx 93 hours HD and a crapload of SD time?

How does the 750GB work, pretty quiet?

I was wondering what BIG difference the DB35 drives actually make? Weaknees Mike mentioned 500GB for $300. Seems a little steep for the same result.

I haven't heard a peep out of my drive. I love it.

To answer your question, I get something like 102 hours of HD and 742 of SD. God knows I won't record that much SD, that's for sure. :p

Dude, you are the man. As you can tell from my profile, I am in San Jose and live right near that store. Based on your post, I scampered over to Fry's this afternoon and after a bunch of digging around, I found one last 500GB Seagate marked as REDUCED PRICE $142.49 which I promptly bought. I have an HR10-250 on the way from eBay and plan to upgrade it as soon as I have it in hand.

The funny thing is, they have a ton of 500GB Seagate drives for sale right now and it seems to be a mix of ATA100, PATA and SATA. The boxes all looked VERY similar but I noticed the reduced drive was ATA100 w/16MB cache. The other drives ($249!) were mostly PATA, with 8MB cache. Of course, when I asked the pimple faced kid in the polyester blazer if they had any Seagate drives marked down he looked blank and poked around a bit then said "I guess not..." I actually walked away to get some other stuff but ended up coming back and digging around some more and found this drive in the back of a big pile of other drives.

In related news, they are having a special on the Seagate 400MB drives which are currently on sale for $119 which I almost bought instead of the 500MB drive I eventually found.

I guess "The Good Buys ARE Always at Fry's..." - as long as you look hard enough.

Thanks again for the tip...

- Chris

It's a serial ATA unit. :(

There are inexpensive converters available to connect a SATA drive to an IDE interface cable.

What do I need, sata or pata for hr-10. How hard to install? Never done it before. Thanks for any info.

Look for either an ATA or PATA (they're essentially the same--ATA is the old description, PATA the new one). They're both parallel connections. SATA is serial, which you don't want.
