Does a C&D cause the loss of hacks?

No. However, if you perform a Clear & Delete Everything and you have the fakecall hack installed you'll be stuck and won't be able to record anything. You'd have to rerun guided setup and make the initial phone calls from scratch after a C&DE. The phone calls will fail during the negotiating stage of the call and the Tivo won't record until you've made a successful call.

All of this is moot if you have a standalone Tivo (a mention of the type of Tivo you own would have been helpful) since you would not have installed the fakecall hack. You can disable the fakecall hack by commenting it out of the rc.sysinit.author file and then rebooting. It may take a while but you should eventually be able to dial out and complete the setup. Once you've made the initial calls you can re-enable fakecall and disconnect the phone line.
