One of my hacked tivos hard drives died recently, so I am re-doing it. I put the 4.01 instant cake image on the drive and am trying to let it dial in to get the 6.2 upgrade so I can hack it from there.

I've done 4 or 5 calls to try and get the update, it stays on "downloading" for about 3 hours, then when it is done, 6.2 is not there. I've restarted it several times.

I then let it download over the network, much quicker, however still no 6.2.

Any ideas?

4.01 was never a supported software version for dtivos so it won't naturally update. Try using the "Slice" method, beg around for a 6.2 image or just break down and buy a new 6.2 instantcake cd.

Thats honestly your best bet. Nothing better than starting off with a known good image.
