One of my hacked tivos hard drives died recently, so I am re-doing it. I put the 4.01 instant cake image on the drive and am trying to let it dial in to get the 6.2 upgrade so I can hack it from there.
I've done 4 or 5 calls to try and get the update, it stays on "downloading" for about 3 hours, then when it is done, 6.2 is not there. I've restarted it several times.
I then let it download over the network, much quicker, however still no 6.2.
Any ideas?

IIRC 6.2 can't not upgrade from 4.01 automatically.
You will have to do it manually via the SLICES method

Thanks for your response, whats IIRC? Are you saying Tivo wont upgrade 4.01b to 6.2? So I'd have to hack 4.01b first, then upgrade it via slices?
Weird, cuz my brother had an unhacked hdvr2 that upgraded to from 3.x to 4.xx to 6.2 via the phone line.

IIRC = If I Remember Correctly
Are you sure about that? 4.0 was never a supported software version for the DirecTiVos. The only way to get 4.0 on a DTiVo is by hacking, so it's pretty much impossible that his unhacked DTiVo downloaded it via the phone.
