I just bought a Phillips DSR 704.
The guy i bought it from didnt know much history on the receiver,other than it had an upgraded hard drive (160gb)
I have it activated but it will not let me use the record option until it makes a call.
I do not have a Home Phone.
Is there a way for me to check and see if it has the hack done that lets it record without a lan line?
Or will i have to take it to somebodys house with a lan line and make a call.
it has 6.2 software on it.

Well, I think you already KNOW the answer to your first question - just take it to someone with a land line & git 'er done.
BTW, I'm kind of surprised you are needing to do this, since you told use it was previously subbed - but perhaps you did a clear & delete, re-ran guided setup, etc...

well i took it to someones house and fianlly got it to make a callo after several failed attempts.
Is this normal?
cause i have another tivo that always fails.
Is their possibly a hack done to it that will not let it make a call?

If you have poor quality phone lines, sure - but since you finally DID get it to make the connection, don't worry about it now.

Is their possibly a hack done to it that will not let it make a call?

If there was, you probably would NOT have gotten it to EVER make the connection... ;) ;)

Well,i have one Tivo that i can not get it to make a call.
Thats the one i was talkin about.
