Please Clarify Lifetime Transfer

Hi folks,

I have a Series2 w/ lifetime and am considering the S3 (thankfully I am in Seattle where Comcast appears to have it together w/ the CableCards).

I am seeking clarification: some posts suggest that in order to take advantage of the transfer of the lifetime subscription to the S3 it is NOT necessary to purchase the S3 directly from the Tivo website. Is this true? I have been unable to locate this relaxed stipulation on the VIP purchase page.

Also, if I *do* purchase the S3 from the Tivo website (via the VIP invitation), is it still possible to use the Tivo community discount offer (e.g. 15% off)?

Tivo will not accept the Tivo Community Store discount.

I bought my S3 from Tivo Community Store with the discount and I was able to transfer my lifetime from my S2 (for the transfer fee).

Many people have posted on TC that they have purchased a S3 from somewhere other than Tivo and they were able to transfer their lifetimes. I believe someone even posted a link to Tivo's site stating they will honor the transfer for a S3 bought any place.

You do not need to purchase from anyone special. I got my Series 3 off the net and transferred lifetime with no problem.

I got mine from the store here and transferred Lifetime with no problems.

(I'm asuming no problems, but the 60-90+ days hasn't elapsed yet, so the Lifetime is still showing up on my S2)

I bought my S3 from Tivo Community Store with the discount and I was able to transfer my lifetime from my S2 (for the transfer fee).You have to apply the 15% discount at the TiVo Community Store checkout. Remember that, as plastered all over the TiVo Community website, TiVo Community has no connection with TiVo, Inc. Several TiVo employees post representing TiVo on the TiVo Community forums, and TiVo Community is allowed to use the TiVo name, but that is pretty much the extent of the connection. Thus there are various restrictions on what can be discussed in the forums, in order to maintain this "friendly" relationship.

SWEET. Thanks for this post guys, I've been going back and forth on this purchase.. and just got an email from the Tivo Community Store today offering $120 off Series 3, coupon code TC120.

After some calls to TiVo, they confirmed it didn't matter where I bought it. Rep Ivonne confirmed this for me.. and as others have posted, it can be done with no problems. Therefore, I am placing my order now! Yipee!
