Hi, all...
Now before I escalate my harassment of my cable company, I want to confirm that other S3 users are able to record material from iNHD and iNHD2. It seems that TimeWarner in northeast Ohio has the CCI byte set to 0x03...
Specifically, I'm trying to record Three Sheets on Sunday nights, but I've spot-checked some of their other programming and it all seems to be 'copy never'
Thanks,
Mike

Well, Mike I live in Geauga County so you happen to hit on someone who lives fairly close by you. I just tried setting up several recordings for tonight including London Live and some Hip Hop thing and I had no problems they appeared on the to do list. I then went to INHD and pressed record for "Wall Street Now" and it started recording and is on my "Now Playing list.
I have got a copy never from INHD when I tried to copy from a recorded program like a concert on to DVD. It won't let me do that. However the other day I was able to view a concert through my DVD recorder on INHD, so I don't know what the full deal is. I'm in the Cleveland Suburbs Area for TW (old Adelphia).

Are you able to tell if a program is flagged bt CCI on a S3?
I like to record most a a show like the Sopranos and watch a bunch of them at one time. I hope I can still do this.
(Monday is my Cablevision install in Connecticut)

Chardon, Ohio I'm with Cox, Orange County, CA and record from INHD1/2 on occasion. Last I checked CCI was set to 0x02 (copy once) - certainly not 0x03 = copy never as the recordings have never been marked to be deleted in 90 minutes. As you probably know from other threads only PPV and VOD programs can be marked 0x03 so you have legitimate beef.

hookbill,
Any luck on those iNHD recordings? Did they stay on the box, or did they suffer from the 90-minute self-destruct?
jtavo,
I haven't had any problems recording from the HD movie channels so far. I don't know, however, if we've specifically tried HBOHD. But, to answer your question, Tivo does pass along the Cablecard information menus where it does show the CCI byte status, so you'll be able to check for yourself.
moyekj,
Thanks for the support, we'll see how it goes. On the first attempt, TW has linked me to the User Agreement on iNDEMAND,com (which does indeed tell me I'm not allowed to copy anything... _off_their_website!_  ) and now is telling me that since they do not maintain Tivo, they will have no comment on the situation....

Be interesting to see if their own DVR allows you to record these channels - if so then that is in violation of the CCI flag and they should either fix their DVR to comply with the 0x03 setting or the CCI flag... maybe you can use that as bait.

The TW box (SA 8300HD, I think we had - hated it, BTW) did let me record iNHD! And I did tell them that too. I don't know how relevant it is though... I believe the CCI rules are part of the Cablecard standard. Since STB's don't use 'em, different rules apply.
Mind you I said nothing about _that_ part in my correspondence!! :D

Cox Omaha's Motorola 6412 dvr allow for PPV recording.

The only problem I have with INHD is finding something worth recording, if I do, it records fine. I can't record INHD2, they took that off my system.

I have the same problem with inHD and inHD2. Everything on those channels is flagged to delete after 90 minutes. I have Comcast (formerly Adelphia) in Vermont.

I can confirm that I was able to record INHD on my SA 8300 and I live in the same area as the OP. I tested it last night and it recorded the test programs but deleted them 90 minutes later.
Stand by for a battle with time warner. I'm also going to test INHD today as well.
I'm a bit confused by the CCI thing. When I first looked at it this morning cable card 2 was 0x03 and card 1 was 0x00. Then they both went to 0x00. I'll be monitoring inbetween cooking the bird. The turkey that is, not one of my parrots.

I got a call today from a field supervisor who installed my cable cards. I asked him to look into the INHD problem. He is talking with a lady who apparently either is one of their best engineers and she confirmed what we already knew, that there is a flag on the cable card saying "do not record." He says she is looking into this to see if we are suppose to be getting this flag and said she would get back to him. He said if she calls tomorrow he will let me know. I asked him to let her know that other people can record INHD with no problem. He said he has already relayed that information to her.
The good news is at least we are dealing now with someone who understands the cable flags. Hopefully this will get fixed in the next day or so.

What CCI flags are people seeing on other channels? I'm seeing 0x00 on my local HD channels, 0x03 on inHD and inHD2, and 0x02 on EVERY other channel. That last one concerns me because if MRV is ever enabled, that 0x02 flag will prevent shows from being transferred off the S3. Maybe TiVo is forcing this flag as an added safety measure until MRV is enabled?

Yep, its the 0x03 that is the problem. That's copy never. The other ones are ok.
Just out of curiousity, are you with Time Warner and it use to be Adelphia?

It sounds like success!
Per my contact at Time Warner, they have just flipped the CCI bit on INHD and INHD 2 from 'copy never' to 'copy once' to match the rest of their HD lineup. I'll check it tonight when I get home and make sure, but I think we've got it...
Of course, this will lead to a bigger discussion when we want to start transferring programming off the Tivo and run up against the 'copy once' flag again, but I'll enjoy my small victory for the moment.

Yep, I got the call too and the flag is set to 0x02 which I've noticed most of the premium HD is set at (HD Net, HD Movies, HBO). Victory is sweet.

I'm actually with Comcast, which was Adelphia until about 2 weeks ago. Who do you suppose I should call to complain about the "copy never" flag?

It doesn't surprise me that it is a former Adelphia. Now who do you call? That's a good question. I had a contact already and I don't know who mgerlica contacted initially but I know we both got the same person eventually who fixed our problem.
Try an email complaint and explain that you know of two people who are former Adelphia people who had an engineer look into this and got it fixed. Another way to do it is to go down to a Comcast office and you may get a chance to talk to someone there who can contact head end for you. Other then that Customer Service will set up an appointment and a tech will come out who won't know S**t from shinola, and it will be an uphill battle. Good luck.

Judging from my dealings so far with Adelphia/Comcast on some of the audio issues I've been having, I think the chances of talking to somebody in my local office that has any idea what I'm talking about are slim to none. I guess I'll start there and see how it goes. Thanks!
