I would like to put my Series3 (and my other TV components such as DVD player and VCR) into my new cabinet. The only problem is that it is metal and the remote control signals will not pass through it. Is there a small device that can sit on top of the cabinet and will transmit (via a cable) the signals to the inside of the cabinet?
Something like this but less expensive:

There's lots of stuff out there to do it. Personally, I use Xantech stuff, available from lots of places.

That Xantech stuff looks as if you have to buy several different pieces. Correct?

Powermid has some inexpensive products ($50), so does leapfrog. Both are at smarthome (not smarthomeusa) (http://www.smarthome.com/prodindex.asp?catid=262). I didn't see the the RF/IR remote from PowerMid, but that is what I used years ago. I could send a command to a device upstairs via RF. The satellite reciever for example was in a crawl space with a powermid pyramid that recieved the rf and blinked the pulses in IR. There was also an IR reciever upstairs so that people could use the satellite remote as if it were underneath the television, and the reciever pyramid would simply broadcast via RF whatever IR blinking it saw.
While looking at that smarthome site, I saw something interesting. It allows you to add RF to existing remotes. The transmitter fits inside a battery- I have no idea if this works, but that's a new approach that bypasses the need to buy an RF learning remote that talks to a blinker behind your opaque cabinets.
Maybe something in there will be useful for a low cost solution.

Be careful about settling for too inferior a product. Nothing more frustrating than pushing remote control buttons and not getting a response. This is especially important if your plamsa screen is close to the IR receiver. The plasma can cause interference.

The powermid was extremely reliable over 3 years that I used it and xmitted through steel reinforced concrete floors,
However, I was not using it with plasma screens.
