View Full Version : Dead HDMI on HR10-250?

I've got a HR10-250 and I'm wondering if the HDMI port is dead, or whether there's some way of bringing it back to life. I had my LCDTV stolen, along with the cables, and when I got the new TV I plugged in component cables while I waited for my HDMI/DVI cable to come. The HDMI worked fine before, and this is the same model TV I had before, but now the HDMI doesn't work; the screen says no signal.

I unplugged the video cables, powered off the HR10 and TV, attached HDMI, rebooted, and still zippo. I changed resolutions after rebooting; nothing. TV works nicely with component (I could live with that since it seems to have the same PQ, and since I'm not using the audio of the HDMI anyway, but it's a matter of having my PIP work, etc.).

Thanks for any help, and happy holidays to you all.

Rob

Sounds like it's dead. Mine has also died recently, but not completely. It still puts out a signal, but looks like it's missing one color channel (the picture is posterized, if that makes sense).

Weaknees sells replacement boards for some of the HR10-250's -- early ones I think. They're pretty expensive though ($200). I'm just going to use the component outputs for now.

You can get the HDMI card repaired by CCS for $100. They have about a 6-day turnaround and provide a six-month warranty on the repaired card. I've had quite a few repaired by them and they do excellent work. You can use the HDTivo without the HDMI card installed while you're waiting for the repair to be performed. Here's the link:

OTOH, if you have component inputs on your TV you may want to use them instead and save yourself $100. There is no discernible difference between the component output and the HDMI output of an HDTivo when used with the vast majority of HDTV sets.

True 'nough. I kinda want the extra input, but a splitter is probably cheaper than the repair. And I may end up swapping out the HR10 so I can get locals over the satellite anyway. Thanks for the tip though.
