TNT-HD picture quality: PGA Grand Slam of Golf

I'm watching the PGA Grand Slam of Golf on TNT-HD, and I'm a bit underwhelmed with the HD picture quality.

I've heard of D*'s version of TNT-HD being down-converted a bit, and it looks to me to be happening for this program.

Can anyone else confirm this? Anyone else watching the Grand Slam of Golf?

I thought they would only do this for their syndicated programs like ad nauseum Law & Order repeats, but I thought for LIVE events, they'd give us some nice quality HD.

It's a shame too with the the golf coming at us from Poipu Bay in Kauai, Hawaii. Spectacular location!

Have you confirmed that it was actually available in HD,
or is this a case of TNT-HD Stretch-o-vision?

It's not stretch-o-vision and it's not DirecTV's problem. It looks like TNT-HD is using mostly upconverted 16:9 SD cameras.

Thanks for the link. Yeah, it looks like others are noticing what I've noticed. Not real HD, even though marked as such in the program guide.

It's on tomorrow night (Nov 22) too, if others want to take a gander as well.

tnt hd is a 4:3 screen but tnt makes it 16:9 they streach it and transmit it like that. if you notice the letters look ok but same image on TNT non-hd.

I really can not stand to watch the HD TNT channel. I sent them an email asking that they tell us when it is real HD and when it is stretch but did not get a reply.

There is most likely no HD truck on Kauai.
