I recorded last Dexter on Sunday with no problems. During playback, however, the S3 reboot on 3 different points, exactly when the Sleeper Cell banner came up 3 times. After the reboot, playing though the point where the banner just came up produced a new reboot. The first time, I could FF past the point and continued to watch until the 2nd banner came up. The 2nd banner caused reboot even with FF 3X.

I recorded Dexter at the same time on my SA 8300 and everything was normal even during the Sleeper Cell banner.

It looks like I have all the reported S3 bugs so far and even some "unusual" one. I found no report of anything like this so far.

Sounds pretty typical to me. TiVo loves to reboot on its own. I had the same thing happen with a recording of Heroes last night. Usually though I have only had this problem on NBC but I am sure could easily happen on different channels. Now get ready for the discussion about whether this is TiVo's fault or the broadcasters fault. It will follow shortly I am sure.

I recorded/watched Dexter, saw the Sleeper Cell banner but didn't suffer a reboot - I'm on Comcast in SF, recording Dexter in HD.

My S3 has never rebooted at all on anything I've recoorded. Saying "TiVo loves to reboot on it's own" just isn't true. The only time my TiVo has rebooted is when I told it to. And I record Heroes every week. I'm in the Cleveland OH area.

I understand the rebooting problem is limited to certain regions. But it is affecting people none the less. I am thinking about creating a video of it spontaneously rebooting and putting it on You Tube. All I have to do is point the camera at the TV and type 4-1, TiVo will reboot.

I recorded Dester again, banners came and...no reboot!

Tortilla:

I had the same problem with NBC bogus channel but with my Mitsubishi TV and not the S3. Very often I had to reset my TV when a bogus NBC channel used to be scanned overnight, using an OTA antenna. Is your problem related to OTA or cablecard?

It is OTA

Same thing happened to me for the first time with my S3 last night. Went to watch How I Met Your Mother and would reboot every time it came upon the 8 minute mark. The Class did the same thing, but at a different time point, even if I 3xFF, it would still get to that point and reboot. Thankfully, I didn't take the season passes off of my S2DT, so I had a back up for both, albeit in Standard Def. My very first major problem. Neither of these were OTA, they were through the CableCard on Comcast Southwest Florida. Do I need to call for a new unit or do you think a software update will fix this?

My guess is that this is another S3 software glitch. At this point I guess I have experimented almost all the problems reported in this board: No audio on 7 channels, random loss of analog channels, reboot during playback. The only serious bug I didn't see so far is the partial recording.

Same thing here, I was watching Criminal Minds (recorded via TWC) last night and the S3 kept rebooting. After 4 reboots I gave up and watched the show on the old Series One TiVo. This is the first problem I’ve had with the S3 and the troubling thing is, that after I quite using the S3 I noticed it rebooted for a fifth time. I am wondering if it might be faulty power supply.

Great! Now I have the complete bug set. Got my first partial recording with Dexter last Sunday. Only the first 18 minutes were recorded. Only noticed today when I played it back. Strange that I had problems with the same program twice, last Sunday and the previous one. I recorded other programs from SHO-HD without any problem.

Ok, the first time I thought I did something my mistake. The second time I thought Ok, TiVo thinks it's time to make it's nightly call. Now I'm just getting really annoywed. I don't have Series 3 -- it's a 2, and I'm sitting here watching a show and it reboots. Seems like it's been happening since the last upgrade. I love TiVo, but this is really annoying.

I had multiple spontaneous reboot problems with a recording of Criminal Minds. The next day I tried the Criminal Minds recording again and it played properly, but then the TiVo rebooted 10 minutes later while I was looking a the main menu.

Interesting thing, after a spontaneous reboot I can’t reset the 30 second skip feature. I have to unplug the S3 and let it sit for a few minutes, then wait for it to boot up and enter the 30 second skip code.

I just got off the phone with TiVo customer service regarding the spontaneous rebooting issue. The CSR indicated it could be a defective cablecard causing the reboot problem or a problem with the TiVo. I was asked to remove one or both the cablecards and run the S3 like that to see if that stops the spontaneous rebooting. If the problem continues they do have an option to cross-ship a replacement unit.
