View Full Version : TiVo update stuck?

At around 6:15 PM I noticed that my Series 2 DT was on at a time I don't do any recording (I have "record favorites" off). I turned on the TV to see that its on the screen saying its perparing to download a service update and it should take an hour (maybe more). At 7:45 PM it was still on this screen and I don't know how long it was on the screen prior to my discovery (its a bedroom TiVo). Has something really bad happened? Should I just wait to see if it ever finishes or would it be OK to unplug it and let it reboot?

It wasn't "on" (light lit, I keep it on standby) this morning. I thought these updates are usually done at 2 AM? Yes, I have nothing planned to record on it at 2 AM. The box is only a little over 2 months old.

If it does not complete overnight, I would pull the plug, wait a minute and plug it back in. It will probably go through the update procedure again. The update usually takes 15-20 minutes, although the message says an hour or more. It could also depend on which model TiVo you have.
