View Full Version : Stop defaulting to Live TV?

I guess this is a feature request.

For all of us non-plasma users there should be a way for us to leave TiVo in the gui and not have it go back to TV.

The main problem is that I have small children (3 and 4), and they don't need to see the trailer for Saw III, no matter how awesome the movie is going to be.

I personally have moved over from Beyond TV (so I am out of the habit of watching random tv), and didn't spend way too much on a TiVo so I could just watch whatever crap happens to be on at that time.

Anyway, I love my S3, and understand that they don't want to burn in plasma's, but maybe they could just have it use a screen-saver feature. After 5 minutes of inactivity in the gui the screen could go black, or dark, kind of like Beyond TV.

Anyway, this currently just leads me to turning the TV off when I walk out of the room, which isn't going to kill anyone, there are probably many more important things they could be working on, but this is something I would like to have looked at.

I leave it paused in either live TV (assuming there's nothing incredibly annoying on-screen that moment) or in whatever I was watching or plan to watch next.
This fixes the other problem with the jump to live TV: it always seems to do it when there's a loud, annoying ad on and the baby is napping.

Paused in Live TV will again go to active Live TV when the buffer is full. I start up something in the now playing and immediately hit pause. That will stay on the screen forever. I totally agree that using a screensaver function would be much more elegant. Maybe the little dancing TiVo moving about the screen.

Program a Suspend macro into your universal remote (you have one, don'tcha? :) )

But I like my peanut!

It already controls my tv and tivo perfectly.

So do the Peanut-shaped Logitech Harmony remotes!

Shush Ashu, lest my lovely wife hear you. Give up her peanut? You and whose army? LOL

Have the Harmony 880, but won't give up the peanut. The key layout on the 880 is not nearly as nice and can't be really re-mapped that way. The key repeat rate is too slow on the 880 even at the lowest delay setting.

So the 880 is used only to turn on everything and turn it off again; to switch between tasks; and so on. Also can't use it for the Panasonic DVD Recorder, because no way how hard I tried could I get the Functions button to work. So we are still a three-remote household.

What did you mean by "suspend macro", anyway?

Did you think about turning on KidZone? TiVo will timeout into KZ and will only tune to channels that you select or "safe" channels that won't show these kind of trailers. If your tuner is currently tuned to a non-KZ channel then it will put up a nice KZ screensaver instead of going to live TV.

Is KidZone available for the Series3?

Oops! Was thinking Series 2, sorry wrong forum. But it's supposed to be coming in the next release, right?

I really hope kidzone is enabled soon, I will turn it on the second it is available.

Didn't know about that feature, but now I want it even more.

I would love to be able to have the kids and grandparents able to simply start something that the kids want to watch, without seeing something terrifying or inappropriate. (I am very old fashioned when it comes to what they watch right now).

I modified the timing functions on my Harmony 880 and it now operates the Tivo MUCH better than before. It was delayed and slow before, now it is as snappy as using the Tivo remote.
