Holy crap...that has got to be a top 5 episode. I'm still cryin. Too many great lines. Great Barney stuff, great Marshall and Lily stuff, and the Ted and Robin stuff was pretty great too.

Nice touch with having Lily's hair be red in the flashbacks.
Barney: "Ouch! Your hands are colossal!"
Marshall: "I don't know why you're surprised... you've seen my penis."
That line takes on a whole new meaning after the recent news stories... :D

That was definitely one of the best HIMYM episodes yet. I loved Barney's rapid-fire triple slap of Marshall, and Marshall's backhanded slap of Barney at the end.

OMG. One of the best episodes of the show.

Too many good lines in this episode. We could go on all day.

I don't think backhand slaps should be allowed. Those are much worse than forehand slaps.
I think there needs to be a ruling from the commisioner. :)

Awesome, awesome episode! Even knowing about the secret in advance didn't diminish it for me at all...just made me thrilled waiting for my hubby to see it, lol. Interesting that they didn't mention the youtube video of it, but kudos for the myspace credit...wonder how many hits Robin Sparkles will get on her page? What a riot!

This show just continues to be legend.................ary. The show has been on a roll for the most part this season I look foward to it evey week. There were to many good one liners to pick out my favorite. The music video was off the charts legend..............ary. I hope this is not the last slap bet we see.

I missed a reference to her Myspace site (http://www.myspace.com/robinsparkles) during the episode. Did they show it in the credits or during the commercials? Damn DVRs! I already deleted it. (I know, I know! In my defense, I just ordered the season 1 DVDs, which come out tomorrow).

There's two myspace mentions. First, Barney mentions that the guy from Malaysia was going to upload the video onto myspace for Barney to retrieve. No particular address was mentioned there. Then, in the tag at the end they showed more of the video and after the end of the video, right before the credits they put a URL up on the screen; I think it was "www.myspace.com/howimetyourmother".

I have to complain about the horrible writing that took me out of the story completely.
She would have starved to death if she lived on Wetzel's Pretzels from the food court. Wetzel's Pretzels are very rare in Canada, in fact, they only exist at movie theatre concession stands.
They could have at least picked Cinnabon or Sbarro, which do exist on both sides of the border, but I guess it would have been too much work to do some research.
I think I'm going to write a letter to CBS to voice my displeasure. :D

holy cow, i lauged out loud so hard at the back handed slap at the end! That was just perfect comedic timing and physical acting. I haven't laughed that hard at a TV show in a loooong time. I kind of guessed Barney was going to go w/ the 5 slaps any time because they're probably going to make it a running joke - which i'm happy about :D

The only issue I had with seeing the whole Robin Sparkles thing ahead made me scratch my head a couple of times wodnering if it was all some ruse, but they worked it in so that it was entertaining whether you knew or not. I loved the reaction Barney had when he assumed it was pornography, then let the reality sink in.

One of the best! HIMYM is back up to par after last week's weaker-than-normal-but-still-better-than-most-TV-out-there Atlantic City episode.
Loved every cheesy 80s pop video reference that they squeezed into the "Mall" video.

Awesome, awesome, episode. I literally laughed out loud several times, and I typically don't do that ever, much less when I'm watching the ep late at night after everyone else is asleep, like I did last night. I, too, had seen the video beforehand, and it did nothing but enhance my appreciation of its sheery 80s-ness.
And I would have definitely taken the 10 slaps now. No question.

Good episode. How come Marshall gets to retaliate with either 10 consecutive slaps or 5 anytime when Barney simply did the exact same thing as Marshall (premature slapulation), but Barney only got to retaliate with 3 consecutive slaps? Maybe because Marshall is sleeping with the commissioner? :D

I'd say there was a legitimate basis for the ruling. Barney had the actual evidence right in front of him, but rather than let the video play he just assumed where it was going and jumped the gun. So in addition to the premature slapulation, I'd say he was also guilty of committing a false start, thus leading to a harsher penalty.

Absolute briliance. God, those slaps looked hard. All of them.
For the record, if you look at the back up bands of other mallrat singers, they were mostly middle aged studio session men in bad 80s outfits also. They just didn't show them very prominently in videos.
Probably my favorite episode to date.

The majority (80%+) on the CBS website picked taking 10 slaps now over 5 between here and eternity. I have to agree.

Finally got to see the glory that is "Slap Bet" last night (repeat on CBS).
Very very funny... I had heard about the song/video, but had not seen any of it until last night. I have still not seen the full video on YouTube yet.
"Eighties didn't come to Canada until 1993" I was almost expecting a MuchMusic tv tag (Canada's MTV).
And yes... I would rather have the 10 slaps in a row (Barney style please) and not 5 Marshall monster "whenever" ones.

Watched this again last night, and still consider it one of the best 1/2 hours of tv in a long time. Barney's comment along the lines of 'If I have to watch one more flat chested Nova Scotian doing it on top of a Zamboni, I'm going to go oot of my mind!' had me rolling...

I watched again last night, and yes, truly one of the funniest half hours on TV. Very good TV.
Random thing that I noticed during Barney's flashbacks about the "Oh" moments: We had the girl who promised to save her virginity for marriage ("Oh."), the girl who just turned 30 ("Oh!!!!") and the girl who doesn't have an eating disorder, she just chews the food up and spits it out. ("Oh!"). The eating disorder girl is the über-hot girl from the über-annoying Right Guard RGX body spray commercials. I would never buy anything like that but I'm completely held hostage by this girl's hotness.
