I am waiting for a replacement cable card. One of the tuners is not showing any digital channels. I removed the bad card, but the tivo still thinks the card is in there. How can I instruct it not to use the tuner attached to that card? It still tries to record things off it, and I cannot guarantee which tuner is being used, therefore, if my recordings will be there.

You can't. The CableCARDs aren't tied to any particular tuner.

As I understand it, the two CableCards merely provide 'decoding/decrypting capability'. Either tuner could use the first available/free, working CableCard.

I *think* if you remove the faulty card, an S3 will still automatically manage to record two shows simultaneously, so long as no more than one is on an encrypted channel. (The manual DOES say this capability is lost, but many have reported it works!)

From the limited testing I've done with one CC, this is true.
