After some drama with Cable Cards, my S3 is up and running perfectly and I love it. I lived with my series 2 on my HD tv for a couple of months, so I watched all my HD programs without the support of a TIVO. Let me tell you- I did not know how much I missed it having the great TIVO interface while watching pausing and watching live TV, the wishlist recordings picking up everything about Peru off of HDnet in anticipation of my vacation there, and the great ways I can customize my recordings so I can catch up on all the world series of poker 2006 that I missed while I was out of the country this summer. I know there have been a lot of reports of bugs/complaints/missing features on here, but I just want to say how much I love my Series 3.

If it's not TiVo, its not TV. Not one iota of learning curve from the DTiVo to the new Series 3 for my lovely wife. That is true product improvement. All those capabilities and the same easy robust interface. I love my series 3 also.

me three...

Every time I use my S3, I smile.. it's been a long time since just the act of using a piece of consumer electronics makes me darn happy to be a capitalist!

Have to agree 100% with this thread.

Still have the HR10-250 and DirecTV as well as cable, but the Series 3 will make leaving DirecTV that much easier ...

i want to chime in here also, i loved my s3 so much, i had to get one for my parents, thankfully we had 2 excellent CC installs and have had no "bugs, restarts, lost programs, etc"

that being said... even if i had that, it'd be worth the troubleshoot to get to where i am now.

my picture is better on all channels, getting the cablecards actually moved me over from analog on 1-99 to digital, that combined with "native" mode honestly makes some SD content make me look twice to make sure its not HD. my HD channels are crisper and brighter, my interface is better, and all around, it's the best thing i've ever purchased for a tv.

there are too many people here complaining, and not enough threads like this... bottom line this is the best DVR out there... and it's only going to get better.

now for my one grip... TIVO: PLEASE GET THE NEW UPDATE OUT, I MISS ONE BUTTON DELETE! ;)

I too love the S3. I had D-TiVo 3 years ago and missed it so much. When I hooked up my S3 it wa like going home. I knew how to do everything and came here for a little refresher course on some things I forgot. Love the interface. It's just the best!

:D

Thanks. I needed a good laugh this morning! Very clever.

I ordered my Tivo this past weekend and should be getting it on Friday. Then I will be singing its praises along with the rest of you.

I'm very happy with my S3 as well. We had an interesting (but ultimately trouble-free) setup with the cable cards, and the tivo has been running smoothly for almost two months. So everyone who is happy with their S3s, chime in. It's time to bring some positive tivo S3 love to these boards. :)

Not to be facetious, but I don't understand this statement.

I also love the S3. I am so happy to not have to use that 8300HD--it is like night and day!

It was a lot of money but I don't regret my S3 purchase AT ALL.

I love this thing.

Does "TiVo is the only way to TeeVee" work better for your unfacetious self? :p

We love it.

Just waiting for the "missing" features to make it into the S3.

Just waiting for a price drop and I'll buy another. I have plenty of lifetimed TiVo's to transfer plus friends and family too. We have until 12/31/06 to buy and I'm hoping we get below $600. For anyone on the fence, I think $599 would be huge! Between holiday gifting and a $200 price drop, we could see them fly off the shelves, then again, maybe they already are.

ClassicX,

You married?

My lovely wife is so TiVolutioned, that if we are visiting any of the kids, and someone wants to watch TV without TiVo, she will leave the room to do something else as soon as the first commercial comes on. And she doesn't come back into the room. She has actually not gone to visit her daughter on occasion because they don't have TiVo. And I can tell you that is some kinda strong attachment, both daughter and TiVo. LOL

I'd be very surprised to see an MSRP price drop before the lifetime transfer offer expires.

I just love these moments when we all get into the spirit, gather around, and we hug our S3's together.

We should do this more often, not just during the holidays. :)

Just wanted to say even my SD channels look so much better with the Series3 compared to my Series2 that I still use along side it. The SD reception is better than I had with my cable box. I love the dual tuners and even though I don't have an HD set yet, it all works perfectly for me and was worth every penny.

I posted some comments yesterday, but I needed to say more about how happy it makes me every time I use it. I have suggestions turned on with about 150 shows plus another 175 shows piled up. Big HD good! I've got kids, so we're up to our eyeballs in Spongebob Squarepants and my older son watches The Simpsons with me and all the James Bond movies on Spike right now he can grab. I starting recording Clint Eastwood movies to see if he likes my favorite.

I don't have much time left for me after watching TV with the kids, so I appreciate some quick adult stuff, just 4 or 5 minuets long, like American Suck Countdown via broadband. I still watch Rocketboom and the NYT. Heaven is watching Deal or No Deal in 15 minuets or less. I always loved game shows and TiVo is perfect for this one.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Great point. This is an unexpected bonus. After buying the big plasma screen and upgrading to a digital cable box, one finds that despite the amazing HD pictures, many SD channels actually look worse than with the old TV and old STB. This can be a bit difficult to explain to a doubting spouse with different priorities for spending discretionary funds. SD channels that used to look horrible are now clean and crisp.

Thanksgiving Day ...

Football in HD up on the 50" Plasma ...

Kids playing with the photo app (with hundreds of family photos) so everyone gathered around ... lots of smiles for a while ... and even Grandma loved it!

Conversation drifted to music ... (up popped the MP3 app) ... Grandma wasn't so fond of the songs :)

Later I see the topic drifted to Seinfeld (up popped the HD Kramer apology from Letterman the other night)

Then Demi Moore in HD from Leno the other night ... that dress was short.

They were bouncing around in HD all day without a hiccup ... cool unit.

Smiles and bellies full to end the evening.

The S3 was a hit.

I must admit that I do love this box..

I am also SO happy with my Series 3 Tivo. Got the HD TV 6 months ago, and I did not realize how much I missed watching live TV under Tivo. It's crazy, but it makes my life so much easier........ and I do not rent movies much, I just watch stuff off the Tivo.

I also love having the Series 2 running as well, to record my son's shows.

Hehe, my life is in the queue for S3!!! Hehe, my wife loves the TiVo so much that she threatened to divorce me if I switched to DTV's DVR. Just kidding, but really, her feelings about TiVo compell me to stay with it regardless of cost. So, cable and S3 is on the horizon. DTV can go where the sun don't shine. I loved them when I switched to their DirecTiVo several years ago, but since Rupert Murdoch took over, their prices have gone way up and they've abondoned TiVo. Their name is Mud with me now.

This is a big motivator for me to switch to S3 and it's great to hear. I got my first big-screen last month and was amazed at the PQ with my upconverting DVD player. However I went, "yuck" when viewing the picture from my DirecTiVo. I mean it's really bad. Color and brightness is fine, but image edges are fuzzy. Looks like there's a lot of compression artifacts. I could probably live with the DirecTiVo indefinitely if the PQ was tolerable, but it stinks. I think the distortion has always been there, I just couldn't see it on my old 27" tube TV.
