So I figured I'd do something nice for my parents when I visit them for Christmas this year, and upgrade their DirecTV HDVR2 units to larger hard drives.

Does the latest DirecTV software released to these units support LBA48, or am I stuck using a couple 160gb hard drives, limited to 137gb partitions?

I don't really want to hack anything from a code/software standpoint, and just want to leave the boxes using the latest, official, release.

6.2 does LBA48.

I beleave the largest drive (750g) is the limit. I bet you could even go with two 750g but I would ask this question directly to be sure. When I did mine I went with a 250g, it took 15min and gives a 220 hrs capacity. The cost of the drive was $74 and the necessary software was free.

good luck,
mark

Yeah, I've been through the upgrade procedure about 4-5 times now with my two S2 stand-alone units, so I don't forsee a problem there. The LBA48 question was really the only one I had.
