I have an SD-H400. Started out about a year ago upgrading to 160GB. Today I then upgraded to 300GB using the 160GB drive. I executed the following:

mfsbackup -f 9999 -so - /dev/hdb | mfsrestore -s 127 -r 4 -xzpi - /dev/hda

My understanding is the above would not preserve recordings. Plus, I know I couldn't because I tried a while back with different commands. I now know it's a lot of work to upgrade from an upgrade and preserve recordings. So I simply TiVo ToGo'd everything and went the above route to at least preserve the to-do list.

TiVo sees the new drive and recording space. However, all the old shows under "Now Playing" still display. Now the shows themselves don't play and I am more than happy to delete these "phantom" shows, but I want to make sure I didn't do something wrong. Is this as expected?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, that's exactly how mfsbackup -s works. Trim recordings but titles show up under now playing list. You can do clear & delete everything (loose channel Logos until next software upgrade and go through guided setup again) or just delete the phantom shows.
