Anyone watch the Fri 11/17/06 ep of Live with Regis & Kelly w/ co-host Clay Aiken?
Today, Kelly was saying how much she disliked Clay as her co-host! She said he was disrespectful to her. He apparently covered her mouth when she was talking. I took it as a joke, but she was very seriously offended.
I think she should have just sucked it up and pretend like she wasn't offended. Personally i thought his co-hosting was good (standard), without incident.
Doesn't look like Clay will come back as a co-host or guest there ever again!

I didn't even watch all of the opening chat Friday. I stopped and deleted it about 10 minutes in. I found it too uncomfortable watching Clay Aiken beg/mope for approval from the audience about something. I don't even remember what it was for. I also never watched that Dancing with the Stars show, so I didn't care about the guests.
So today when Kelly talked about it to Regis, I undeleted it from my Tivo and watched the rest of Fridays show. Kelly was visibly taken back for about 10 seconds, after he placed his hand over her mouth, then she went on. I didn't detect any hostility after that. They even hugged and kissed after he did his performance.
I would be upset too. What he did was childish and unprofessional. I though she handled herself pretty well for the rest of the show.

I didn't watch on Friday since I really don't like Clay at all. I tried to watch but it was too annoying. I went over to youtube and looked at what he did and frankly, it was completely uncalled for.
Kelly is the host, Clay was the guest. Had he ever watched it before he would have know she was just asking follow up question ( as a good interviewer does ) to what Emmitt and Cheryl were saying. When she was done, she would have given him a change to ask his silly question. "so, now you can do two things I can't atheletics and dance!". Wow, what an insightful comment. Clay needs to stop talking and stick to what he appears to know something about singing.
Clearly, Clay decided she was hogging the question ( odd when she spent about 15 seconds of the first two minutes interviewing and the rest listening (as Clay had not since his questions weren't related. Then based on that he decides the way to get a work in is to COVER HER MOUTH? I think she handled it pretty well. Frankly, she should have slapped him.
Regardless of the reason, he'll never be on that show again and that video will become infamous. Here is his appearance:

I'm no fan of Kelly Ripa's, but Aiken was way out of line.
I absolutely LOVED it when she said "I don't know where that hand has been". Perhaps a subtle dig at Clay's not-so-secret sexual orientation?
Sorry, but as a gay man, he screams "gayer than a box of birds" every time I see him. My gaydar is off the charts with that guy.....
...and what part of the south is Regis referring to? "Southern gentleman" my as*. He's a catty, bossy diva......

Hi
What is this?
Long story Short.
Aiken was a prick, Kelly was pissed and said so. Aiken will not be appearing on Regis and Kelly anytime in the next millenium.

Thanks for the link IJustLikeTivo. The hand over mouth thing, after seeing it again, does seem over the top. But, when i saw it the first time, i didn't think anything of it.
It does take alot of guts from Kelly to actually come out w/ it on Monday. Personally i would have just pretended like it never happened, and not draw any attention to it.
If Regis did the same thing, would Kelly be as PO'd?

Apparently Kelly called into the view today to argue with Rosie about this or something. Didn't see it since I don't watch the view, but I heard something about it on the radio. Anyone know anything about it and/or have the video?

Regis has done it before but with him you knew it was a joke. Additionally, one host doing it to the other is one thing, a guest doing it is entirely different.

yeah.. exactly. Just a little out of line for Clay to do something like that. Of course, I think Kelly Ripa is overreacting just a tad.
Just two divas going at it. Nothing more. :)

Agreed. Clay did something stupid, no doubt about it, but Kelly should've just dealt with it back stage and let him have it. He probably would've come out after the C-break and apologized on camera if he had known it offended her that badly. From everything I've seen of him, he's really not the kind of person that would typically let things get to this level if he could help it.

If he didn't know, he wasn't paying attention, Kelly was visibly annoyed.
My guess is that when no apology was forthcoming after the show, that is when she decided to say something on Monday. Even then, she didn't say much, just that she felt it was inappropriate.

Dude's on about minute #25 of his 15 minutes, anyway. Buh-bye Clay, (if we're lucky).

My sister's a Clay fanatic and she made me watch a portion of the show. Clay and Kelly were teasing each other the entire show and it appeared to me that Clay covering Kelly's mouth was done in the same jocular manner. She's freaking out over nothing as far as I'm concerned, the guy wasn't trying to be disrespectful. Of course my sister made sure to tell me that Kelly has been much more disrespectful in the past to Clay than he was to her on her show. Personally, it doesn't matter to me if the two feud for the rest of their lives about it. :)

not only that, but a dig at the accussations about his sexual activities... things that involve fists and such...
and seeing how she is a howard stern person, i'm sure she is aware of the accussations...

I haven't seen the show before with Regis, but after watching the interview clip, Kelly asked all the questions up to that point and was about to ask another one. If he didn't cover her mouth, I don't think he would have ever been able to ask a question. Is that the normal interviewing style of this show, either Regis or Kelly asks all the questions while the other remains silent? It just seemed strange why she wouldn't let him ask any questions.

I'm surprised he agreed to be on such a stupid show. I really like Regis as a personality but both Kathy Lee and Kelly Ripa have always monopolized the show with mindless questions.
You could tell he was uncomfortable just sitting there saying nothing when he was supposed to be a cohost. He made an attempt to get in and tried to be funny and realized right away from her reaction that it wasn't a good move.
I love the Internet and these forums. I would never even know about these little incidences if I didn't hear about them here.

Kelly's reaction proved herself to be a complete diva. Despite her efforts on The View to explain that Clay's action was wrong because "she has kids and it's cold and flu season and she didn't want to catch germs", it was obvious by her initial reaction that what she really thought was "the measly little co-host doesn't touch me, the queen". Look at the way she turned to him and said "no, no, no...thats a no-no". Total diva!!! This was really made clear last night when Extra played a clip from last year of Kelly putting her hand over Regis' mouth EXACTLY the same way Clay did to her.

I heard her call-in explanation on The View and while I initially thought Rosie may have overreacted, I can see where she *might* have come to the conclusion that Kelly took a little jab at Clay's "alleged" not-so-straight sexual orientation.
Clay was out of line, but c'mon..."cold and flu season"...get real. Gotta do better than that Kelly.

Watching the clip, a while before that Clay said something about "you let me in whenever you want...", obviously wanting to participate, and she still wouldn't let him.
It didn't seem like the hand over mouth thing upset her because he was touching him, but because she felt humiliated that the guest host thought he could "outshine" her.

I absolutely LOVED it when she said "I don't know where that hand has been". Perhaps a subtle dig at Clay's not-so-secret sexual orientation?I keep hearing that this is a reference to his sexual orientation, but I don't get it. Why would someone who is gay, have hands that are "dirtier" that someone who is straight? With the exception of a vagina, a gay man's hands touch the same parts as a straight man's hands don't they?

Interviews go with the ebb and flow of the answer. Every question Kelly asked led to an obvious follow up. A good interviewer listens to the answers.
It's been said that most people aren't listening, they're just waiting to talk. That would be Clay. He didn't care if what he did was right or polite, he was just annoyed that he wasn't getting his chance to talk. Just childish., not malicious.

What I meant is that Kelly was *pissed* when he put his hands over her mouth....and I think she thought of the nastiest thing she could muster up regarding Clay, which is his alleged affair with a gay escort.
It should also be noted that the rumor is that Clay is into "fisting". I'll leave it to wikipedia to explain that one. You put two and two together.....
Hence the "I don't know where those hands have been" remark....
Is she homophobic? I really don't think so. Was Rosie out of line for thinking the comment sounded like it MAY have been homophobic? In my opinion, NO. I immediately thought the same thing.

I saw the whole show and IMO Kelly and Clay were BOTH giving it to each other in host chat. IMO Ripa was mad because Clay gave it to her with jokes and cut downs, just as much - or better than she did. The audience has a lot of Clay fans in it (which I am not - I don't care about him one way or another) and IMO Kelly was a little miffed because they were laughing at him more than her in some of the host chat.
Kelly also set the tone for totally silly and having no boundaries to how she would behave with Clay. He said he had a phobia to cats, so she kept literally sticking a pic of a cat in his face. She showed a clip of her imitating him, and in this clip, she was pawing all over Regis who was playing Bo Bice, when I did see the entire thing. So she was definitely setting the tone for mocking and goofing around, and not some dignified show that she suddenly pretends she was on. IMO she never is dignified, she usually is silly.
So both had cards with questions for Emmitt and his partner, Ripa was not letting Clay get a word in edge wise, so he goofed around and put his hand on her, it was a joke ! Emmitt laughed, the audience laughed - so what? She was being silly and putting him down too.
She should have dropped it, or if she was bugged by him, tell Gelman behind the scenes not to have him back. But instead she came on Monday acting like she was some serious host like Diane Sawyer with a head of state, and got all diva on Aiken fans, and went wacko about him touching her. She also was whining about how bad he behaved. Well she was not any more mature than he was. Then she added that Howard Stern and his wife had even called her supporting her. (LOL Yes, Howard Stern is the epitome of respect and dignity for women lol).
I think Rosie was not correct, but I do think that Kelly's little "'I don't know where his hand has been", and her fake excuse about it being cold and flu season is a bit much. Ripa took a cough drop out of a male guest's mouth that she thought was cute one day, and put it in her mouth. She kisses her shoes and licks them to show how much she loves them, and she once put Regis's chewed gum in her mouth. lol
So her little comment about dirty hands may not have had anything to do with being gay, but it was definitely a way to put him down in one way or another, just because she was mad that she was not getting all of the laughs he did throughout the show IMo. It kind of was not a big stretch based on how she puts anything in her mouth - to think she was making a little remark about the gay rumors. The tone of her voice, and how she looked at the audience were pretty weird. All that was missing was a "wink", like we all know the rumors about him.
If nothing else, Ripa was being a diva, and she wanted to cut him down, and it's because he razzed her as much as she did him.
What is funny is how her overreaction has made for a lot of fun. Regis made a funny comment about his hands being clean when Kelly was backing off from trying some new inhaler he was holding. LOL. Aiken presented an award at the AMA's and someone put their hand over his mouth and she said - something about where her hands had been.
Ripa brought this on herself because she had to bring it up again on monday, and when you look at the clips, Clay was goofing around, and acting just as she did throughtout the show. She may not be homophobic, but she is a diva who wanted to cut him down at that point, and it may or may have not been about being gay. But it definitely is not because she is a germophobe, she probably would have licked Mario Lopez's hand if he did it! lol
