Just got the update. Was on the priority update list that somebody has posted here before.
My RS-TX20 Toshiba tivo was so terribly slow. It wouldn't even show the fast forward bar when I pushed ff.
Now it seems much faster. The menus come up quickly, it responds much better to the remote control on the first try.
Anybody who is having problems on their series 2 that seems speed related should try the 8.1 update. It might clear up some of those problems.
Although on units with questionable hard drives that may be failing, the 8.1 update may mean units that won't boot up.
Why is it that tivo hasn't designed some sort of sector mapping/fixing portion to their updates? This would solve lots of potential problems and make their customers much happier.
