Wouldn't it be great if Tivo came out with a "Tivo Media Player" (made by Tivo)that would update by itself and download your shows overnite. That way whatever you record would be there in the morning to take with you. Of course it would have to be better and bigger than that little Ipod. Maybe this could be the Ipod killer that every one is waiting for!

This functionality is already included in TiVoDesktop.

I meant to say a portable "Tivo" player, something easy to use. Like a Ipod with a bigger screen and good external speakers. Something to load your tivo shows into and then being able to watch wherever and whenever you want to. Something that Tivo would build and you could download your shows to overnite.(Without special conversions or codecs).Something that when you upload your shows, they would transfer in seconds not hours. Like the I Tunes store. Something that would only work with Tivo. Maybe some added features like being able to put a dvd movie in it, or your music and photos that you have on your Tivo. Just a thought!!

The iPod works great for TiVo shows, especially when used with TiVo Desktop Plus.

Exactly.
With technology like SlingBox and iPods, PSPs, etc. the technology is already there, hence the support in Desktop Plus for converting for these platforms.

No, knowing TiVo
it would be proprietary to the .tivo format and TiVoCast, who needs that.
it would cost more to manufacture than they could sell it for, losing TiVo even more money.
it would carry a $21.95/mo subscription fee with a 5 year commitment.
and you'd pay $24.95 for the codec licenses.
it would take 17 months just to get a new color out the door.
the FAQ wouldn't explain the service terms clearly.

i would just settle for the functionality to stream any video file from the local network to the tivo. having to convert a video file to mpg, then transfer it to the tivo is just not worth the trouble...

THe new version of Tivo Desktop plus will be doing that soon. It still converts it to the format Tivo can read but it does that automatically for you with no additional software.

while that is a step in the right direction, i wish it could be done by streaming the video, instead of requiring the video to be transcoded and sent to the tivo..

I don't seem to agree with you much, but I put this post in the "funny, sad, and probably true than I'd like it to be" category.
I think what the OP wants is something like the new DishPlayer, where you just plug it in to the USB port of the DVR, without requiring work to be done on an external PC.

Unfortunatly due to the hardware in the S2s that is not possible.

As time goes by, you'll agree more and more; unless something changes dramatically, in which case you'll read something different from me.
