Has there been a change in 8.1 in how long it takes to time out to Live TV? I just noticed my Series 2 has been on TiVo Central for about 10 minutes now.

I think the timeout has always been 15 minutes for standalones. However, the DirecTiVos have always been about 5 minutes.

I think it has always been about 5 minutes for the Series 2. At any rate, I just checked and it's been on TiVo Central for 25 minutes now. I think 8.1 broke the timeout.

I'm quite disappointed that TiVo didn't fix this known problem.

Yep, 30 minutes seems to be about the time it takes go from TiVo Central to live TV...

It's never been 5 minutes for the S2s ... it was 15 or 20. The new S3s use a 5 minute timeout.

Someone in another thread pointed out that having more than one TiVo in the room and issuing IR commands to one would re-trigger the timeout on the TiVo not being viewed, and make it appear that it was not timing out. Indeed, I think that's what I've been seeing (I've got 2 Series 2's and a Series 3, but only one video screen in the same room). So I'll have to retract the 30 minute observation above... It might still be 15 minutes (although, like the thread that minckster referenced, I remember a much shorter timeout prior to 7.3x).
I still remember the software version (way back when, prior to the HMO release; maybe V4 or 5?) which actually controlled the yellow 'IR received' LEDs on the S2's individually, depending on how the remote address was set-- the S2 would only flash its yellow LED if it was the unit being addressed. It took me a while to get over the loss of that feature. Now I have 3 units flashing back at me and half the time don't know which unit I'm watching, unless the pic is in HD...
Ditto. No time out here if multiple boxes in close proximity.

I concur. I never watch live TV through Tivo, so I every time I turn on the TV to watch something I recorded, I immediately press the Tivo button. I would love it if Tivo would just stay on Tivo Central, instead of going to a live feed.

At least have the timeout period be a configurable option, with '0' for 'never'. I've never understood why a TiVo has more hidden undocumented configuration options than it has exposed ones. Who cares if Joe Sixpack won't understand the more obscure options. If he doesn't understand them he won't use them, but his failure to understand is no reason to restrict those of us who do.
