Sepinwall is usually pretty reliable, and he is quoting Rob Thomas.

It is somewhat disappointing (and IMHO, ominous for those of us hoping for another season) that CW isn't going for a full order of 22, but at least it probably won't disappear mid-mystery.

Good: more episodes. YAY!
Bad: only 19 episodes, then a very doubtful future for more. BOO!

Ugh. Why do I keep dwelling on the bad when I should be happy just to finally get word of more episodes? :(

Twenty. 13 + 7. :)

Er. Yeah. Either way, it's two less than what we should get. :(

For those who like to look on the bright side, it was pointed out on TWOP that "Felicity" was cut short its third season (17 episodes), yet still got renewed for a fourth. The same happened to "Star Trek: Enterprise." While neither of those examples makes a *fifth* season very likely, perhaps Sepinwall is correct, and this decision is not an indication of the thinking of the suits on renewal/cancel.

I am repeating what I said on the other thread b/c I didn't see this earlier one. But I'm not so optimistic as others. It sounds to me like a bell is tolling.

I was a fan of My So-Called Life, Sports Night and Arrested Development, so this feels very familiar to me. VM seems destined to join their ranks as another brilliantly original show that for whatever reason could not find an audience.

It's amazing that VM has lasted for three seasons considering how low the ratings have been. To quote another great-but-canceled show Homefront, I choose to accentuate the positive.

I'm choosing to believe that the CW is just being penny-wise and trying to make sure that they don't dig a hole that they can't get out of, financially.

Ratings are up and the CW needs quality shows to fill a lot of gaps, so I am choosing to think that this means nothing. Except that I get me some more Logan Ecchols. :)

Futon Critic is echoing the report, though I can't tell if it's simply an echo of the above report, or if they have official confirmation from the CW.

Michael Ausiello at TV Guide is reporting the same thing (http://community.tvguide.com/thread.jspa?threadID=700012280), citing Rob Thomas as a source. Ausiello corresponds frequently with Thomas (and doesn't generally cite rumors, since he is pretty well-connected), so I'd take this story as fact.
