Seems like the holiday push is here.

Heard a tivo ad on the radio.

Free tivo and instead of free tacos or something silly like that.

"It isn't Tivo if it isn't Tivo" seems like the new tagline.

hmmm,

I'm still trying to find that 30 second skip on my radio.....
Maybe Tivo should make a car radio version of the Tivo :)

I've heard them a few times around 430ish during my drive home on WTOP in the DC area. Something about "Free Tee Voe" and tacos.

The interesting part is the very clearly state it's free for a LIMITED time and AFTER rebate. Hmmm...

Yeah, I don't like that, but I'm having a hard time of coming up with something better.

Make sure your "tivo" is really a TiVo!

Do you have a TiVo or just a DVR?

All DVRs are not the same.

Why settle for a cable or satellite DVR when you can have a TiVo?

Shades of Neil Armstrong.. The actual slogan is, "It's not TiVo, unless it's a TiVo"

Pretty funny ad. And I liked the sound effect at the end.

Interestingly, I copied and pasted directly from a TiVo press release (http://www.tivo.com/cms_static/press_117.html).

Here's another (http://www.tivo.com/cms_static/press_116.html) that uses the phrase, 'It's not a TiVo unless it's a TiVo.'"

As usual TiVo gets it wrong in as many ways as possible.

The right way to say it is, "It's not TiVo unless it's a TiVo."

The whole boneheaded phrase in one form is, It is not TV until it is on the TV and that is one reason we say 'It's not a TiVo unless it's a TiVo.'"

just a factoid I heard recently but they reanalyzed the transmission of his famous saying and did find he said it right, we just could not hear it.

"One small step for a man, one giant leap for Mankind."

Well, Snopes says there was NO missing "a" in Armstrong's quote. See http://www.snopes.com/quotes/onesmall.asp.

Well, Snopes says there was NO missing "a" in Armstrong's quote. See http://www.snopes.com/quotes/onesmall.asp.That article was last updated in 2004. This wired article (http://www.wired.com/news/wireservice/0,71885-0.html?tw=wn_technology_space_6), from Sept. 2006, claims an Australian programmer has analyzed the transmission and believes that Armstrong did say 'a man'. Not that I'm saying Snopes is wrong and the Aussie is right, but the Snopes article could at least be in need of updating.

My Sirius radio can do part of that (forget which model I have, Sportster 4 or something???).

Doesn't do the long term recording like Tivo (although I think some of them do), but I do get the trick play with a 45 minute buffer. The trick is to pause the radio when I leave the truck, that way when I get in for the trip to work I have 45 minutes to FF through when I get to a song I don't like (or a commercial on the talk stations). :D

I knew about the Armstrong controversy and his vindication.

When I listened to the TiVo ad, I heard only one "a" in the proper place.

I still don't believe it -- there's not a long enough time gap. There's static between the "small step for" and "man", which theoretically could have an 'a' inbetween, but I think the whole rhythm of his speech would be off.

That is, think of...

[regular speed] One small step for
[fast] a
[regular speed] man, one giant leap...

Obviously "a" is the shortest word you can get, but I still think it doesn't fit with the rest of his cadence. He goofed.

Now I see the problem ... Tivo is advertising on the moon, a quarter of a million miles from the customers it needs to reach.

According to some NASA people I spoke with years ago, I thought the "One small step for man, one giant leap for Mankind" was backwards and was supposed to be "One small step for mankind, one giant leap for man" ? In the end it probably doesn't matter... some PR people sitting in a back room scripted it. :)

Who says "a" as a separate word? No matter how slow I say it "a man" still comes out as "aman". He might have goofed, but that isn't a convincing argument to me.

Wow that's pretty cool. Maybe someday, when the subscription rate for Tivo drops I'll be able to get Sat Radio....
