OK they're delivering my new 65" dlp HDTV tommorow. I currently have a series 2. I have the Comcast hd box and the regular digital box (currently connected to tivo). What I wanted to do was split the cable at the source, one into the new hd box and one into the old digital box. This way I could record and watch at the same time, plus just switch inputs when jumping from hd to regular tv.
Here's my question, what do I do about the remote control issue? The tivo remote is no prob because it wouldnt affect the hd box, however, will the hd remote also change the channel on the digital box? Is there a way to make the hd remote "box specific"? If I can't do this then what is my best set up? And no, I will not use a cablecard in any scenario.
Thanks for any and all help.

It is up to the cable box supplier to"address" the boxes, but genrally you'd built an fort for the Tivo controlled box.

Just an update for those who may have this same question. Apparently when I split the incoming signal to both boxes it weakened the signal and I couldn't get all of my HD channels. I settled by just running composite out of the HDSTB to the Tivo with the HDMI cable handling the HD signal.
I did however learn that the channel changing was not a problem because the tv had its own IR blaster for its remote.

The solution would have been to get a cable amplifier/splitter that works with digital cable and doesn't produced weakened outputs.
Also, what you're saying about your TV doesn't quite sound right. If there's a problem with the boxes responding to each others' remotes, even if you're saying the TV can mimic the IR codes for the cable box, those IR flashes will still be in the same room, and could be picked up by the other box.
The advice to build a fort around at least one of the boxes (if not both) still stands.
