It depends on how you purchase your second box. If you get it from TiVo, then you have to complete the service commitment you agreed to. Then you get a discount off of the regular monthly price. The rules have gotten very complex, so you probably need to read through the TiVo information on their web site. Yes as long as you buy from some other location other then Tivo.com. The MSD rates is 13.95/month with 1 year committment, $8.95/month with 2 year committment and $6.95/month with 3 year committment. Esentially you are saving $6/month off the standard subscription price.

I believe for adding an additional box the rules are simple. You save $6/month off the price. The only complex rules is for the existing customers that are in the grey area of the new plans.

Not simple at all.
If you buy a box and commit to two years of monthly service, you pay $14.95. If you be a second tivo and only want to commit to one year, your MSD rate is only $1 less at $13.95/mo.
Or if you have an existing account at $12.95/mo that you've had for years and add another Tivo, you get the option to pay $13.95/mo for a 1 year commitment which is $1 more per month

The new rates are the same no matter where you buy the TiVo.

You can not initially get MSD if you purchase the box directly from Tivo.com.

If you buy a box and commit to two years of monthly service, you pay $14.95. If you be a second tivo and only want to commit to one year, your MSD rate is only $1 less at $13.95/mo.
Still $6 cheaper then the regular 1 yr committment rate.
Or if you have an existing account at $12.95/mo that you've had for years and add another Tivo, you get the option to pay $13.95/mo for a 1 year commitment which is $1 more per month
Again still $6 cheaper then the regualr 1 yr committment rate.
The reason it is "not simple at all" is because you are bring up the old pricing structure.
Standard rates are as follow:
$19.95/month with 1 yr commitment
$14.95/month with 2 yr commitment
$12.95/month with 3 yr commitment
MSD rates are as follow:
$13.95/month with 1 yr commitment
$8.95/month with 2 yr commitment
$6.95/month with 3 yr commitment
Difference between standard rate and MSD rate:
$6/month with 1 yr commitment
$6/month with 2 yr commitment
$6/month with 3 yr commitment
You could technically buy a Tivo and do 3 yrs and pay $12.95/month and then buy another Tivo and do 1 yr and pay $13.95/month with MSD. You still though are saving $6/month with MSD. You have to compare plans with the same time frame or it makes your comparison invalid.

I brought up the old price structure because the vast majority of Tivos out there were subscribed before Tivo required any committment period with hiked up prices so any additional units added to such accounts would be required to mix the old price with a new MSD price.
If you just say that you save $6 off the regular price, people (who generally tend to be not that smart) won't understand exactly what that means, so I pointed out how MSD may not mean that you pay $6 less than you pay for the first box because of varying committment periods.
You can not initially get MSD if you purchase the box directly from Tivo.com.
You're right, It's only the single/first units that have the same price plans

You could also buy a S3 with 3 years prepaid from Tivo.com and have the $12.95 box drop to $6.95 (possibly have to do 3 yrs committment not sure how that works) but you can also get a better price on the S3 from Weaknees with coupon and google check out plus a $50 giftcard for using google check out.
