I have a Tivo Series Two TCD540080 and I was curious how I hook it up to my computer so that I can burn the shows I record to DVDs.

Go to Tivo's support site. They'll have all the info you need there. Or you can do a search and find TONS of info here.

Option 1:
wireless router
wireless adapter
Option 2:
wired router
USB ethernet adapter
ethernet cable
All of this can be found on Tivo's support site, along with how to set it up.

Does peer to peer only work for Tivo to Tivo? (this would be setup only to transfer shows, the Tivo would still have to call in via phone to get guide and software updates.)

I "believe" that simply hooking up the tivo to the PC via Ethernet cable won't work. It's designed to be networked with a router. Someone else here can tell me if I'm wrong.

I know for sure you can not use just a standard ethernet cable, you need a crossover cable.
I know you can do Tivo to Tivo using peer to peer connections (wireless or crossover cable) but I am not sure if you can do peer to peer with Tivo to computer.
Would be interesting if you could do Peer to Peer wireless between the Tivo and computer and then have the Tivo use the computers internet connection (via ethernet port) to access the Guide data and updates. I think though that would take a little more configuration.
I linked to two documents so if someone would like to try it out and see if it works I guess they can.

Before I got DSL, the only thing my network connection was good for WAS Tivo.
My setup was Tivo -> compatable USB wired adapter -> crossover ethernet cable -> PC ethernet connection.
I was able to get it to do transfers from Tivo to PC, but never got my music/pictures/PC to show up on Tivo.
Now I have DSL with router, and use the same USB adapter on the Tivo with a 'regular' ethernet cable connected to the router.
FINALLY, two way connection between Tivo and PC!
