im thinking about buying a tivo and i am contemplating between the dual tuner model and the single tuner model. the feature ilike about the dual tuner model is that one can, at the sametime, record one show and watch another. I know it is possible to rig the single tuner model to do the same thing; however, in the support section of the tivo site it seems to suggest that if one rigs their single tuner model in such a fashion they will not be able to pause the show that they are watching. The question: if one rigs their single tuner model to record and watch at the sametime, is the full tivo functionality lost just while recording or in its entirety??

See the link in my sig. WIth any tivo, you can watch a previous recording with full tivo functionality while recording something else. It's only when you want to watch two (or three, with the DT) programs that are on at the same time that you must bypass the tivo and watch truly live TV.

Also, the Dual Tuner boxes don't work with antenna or "OverTheAir" (OTA) television. They're for cable and satellite only.
To have all three options, antenna, cable, and satellite, you need a single tuner Series 2 (or an old Series 1).

OK. Sorry if I'm hijacking a thread. But I'm planning on buying a new box. I tried a different forum, but was ignored.
OK. I have an older R10. I never needed to hack it, or anything, so never knew the hoops I needed to go through. So, now I have a delimma. I searched for the PROM chips, found some people selling them, but I don't have the tools to do the swap. (I was certified as Microminature repair in the Navy, so I can do it with the proper tools.) So, I'm going to buy a system that I can hack. (Due to low cost and that the system is out of warrantee.) So, I found 3 systems that seem to have good reviews from the boards here. A DSR7000, A HDVR2 and a HR10-250. None of these units have been hacked, and the HD10-250 is still in a sealed box. None are over $50, including shipping.
I need, in the system, these features. A UI closely resembling the R10's. (We're used to it, and kinda set in our ways. Some difference would be ok.) Dual inputs as we like shows that happen to be on at the same time, but different channels. Needs to work with DirecTV. Is easily modable, and networlkable. (I already bought a USB to Ethernet dongle, so I would like to be able to use it.) We don't have HDTV at the moment, but probably will get it sometime next year. I need this information within 24 hours.
So, knowing that, what would be your choice, and why? The choices are:
DSR7000
HDVR2
HR10-250

See the list of hackable DirecTivo's listed at the top of this page Tivo Zipper (http://www.mastersav.com/tivo_zipper.html)
Either the DSR7000 or the HDVR2 will work well and are essentially identical inside and they're Standard Definition DirecTivo's.
The R10 is a Standard DirecTivo.
The HR10-250 is a High Definition DirecTivo.

OK, Thanks for the input. And thanks for the URL. It helped a lot.

Is there a listing of model numbers for the series two standalones that have either single or dual tuners?
