View Full Version : Audio lags behind video on HD content

I've noticed occasionally that the audio track is playing about a 1/2 second behind the video. So it almost appears that the audio track was dubbed in. I've narrowed it down to when this happens. It only happens if I'm watching a recorded HD show while the TiVo is recording another show. If I watch an SD show while recording, it doesn't lag. It doesn't matter if I have the audio set on Dolby Digital or PCM mode, it still lags on the HD content. If I stop the recording show, it doesn't lag and is in sync. If I watch an HD show on the second tuner, it doesn't lag.
I've seen some similar issues on the board, but I haven't seen any solutions. Does anyone know how to fix this? Also, has anyone contacted TiVo support about it?

I hope I don't put the wammy on myself but I have not seen a audio sync lag since I got my S3.
I never watch live and usually watch while recording 2 shows.

Join the club. I have image lag (behind sound) with SD content :)

I've seen this too - but in my case the one time I noticed it I was recording two shows while watching an sd show...

I also have problems with audio lag.

Are you guys sure it's audio lag, not image lag? It looks similar, for sure. Image lag makes much more sense.

I'm currently recording two shows and trying to watch a third show. I noticed that the lag is even worse. I think it is twice as long of a delay. It's hard to tell whether the audio is behind the video, but I'm pretty sure that's what it is. You notice more on hard syllables like the P sound in "Please" where the lips clearly are making a P.

I've noticed audio lag while watching the Conan O'Brien show that I recorded. Positive that it was the audio that was lagging not vice verse.

I just talked to customer service and he said that the 8.1 version of the software fixes the problem, but they haven't printed the release notes yet so he's not positive. He also told me that he's going to bump the priority of mine and I should check in 1-2 days. So it looks like they are rolling out the new version sometime really soon. K, now I'm excited. I wan't deleted items back.

Hey, that's good news!
Wonder if we are going to get *new* functionality and not just stuff the S2 has had for a while now.

If the video is ahead of the audio, you can try pushing your TV back a little. For 1/2 second, try moving it back 93,000 miles. It should sync up perfectly.

Who says we're getting 8.1? They only beta tested that on S2, not S3.

Who says we're getting 8.1? They only beta tested that on S2, not S3.No. They only PUBLICLY beta-tested that on S2. My guess is the S3 beta-testers (from before the initial release) are still on the job and beta-testing away. They undoubtedly had to recruit new beta-testers for the S2 since that was released so long ago, and that's why we heard about that recruitment and beta-testing.

I'm just relaying what the CS guy told me. I basically told him the problem and he said he wanted to buffer up the new software update that is coming out soon. I said you mean version 8.1? He said yes. I asked him if the release notes says that it fixed that problem. He said he didn't have the printout yet of the release notes, but it should fix the problem.
I'm sure they are testing 8.1 on the S3 also. I can't imagine they are not since the S3 will have version 8.1 sooner or later.

I'm sure that they are too, there was the guy that goofed in the "post your S3 setup" thread that showed his NPL with a "recently deleted" folder.
Hope he didn't get into too much trouble over the slip.

I get out of sync on my S3 and I ONLY have SD.
SD, no cable card, SD TV.
I hadn't confirmed if it only happens when recording another channel though. I will try and confirm this.
