In the old days (I had a Dtivo), showcases would allow you to see whats new on HBO, Showtime, ... Tivo recommends, etc.
Whatever happened to that. Now showcases seem like advertisements.
I would really a quick way to see what the new first run movies are.

I asked the same question (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=325178) yesterday, but nobody seems to know. I miss tivolution magazine too.

Yeah, they either need to update it back to how it used to be or drop it. As it is, it's useless.

I miss the preview HBO and preview of certain channels. It seems they've turned showcases into nothing more then advertising spots. And I think the most showcases I've seen so far are maybe four.
That may be a good thing. It would be a waste to fill all those spots with nothing but advertisements.

Sometime during the past few months the content of Tivolution dropped to only "Opening Night". And in the past week or two, it disappeared entirely.
But in the same time period, I've noticed scads more advertisements showing up under Showcases and on the main menu.
I'm using an old but trusty Sony Series 1 so this has nothing to do with software updates.
It would appear on face value that Tivo's priority now is to push more advertisements to my set and has discontinued the very useful Tivolution guide.
Substituting a beneficial feature for advertisements without comment is the kind of action that reflects poorly on a company's regard for its customers.

Totally agree.
There's good stuff coming up that shouldn't be missed. Prime Suspect, the History Channel special on the Mayflower (Dangerous Crossing). These specials should be highlighted in the Showcases and Tivolution magazine area precisely because they are special - they're not series and liable not to be repeated in the near future.
Get the Showcases area to be sponsored by someone - I don't care - just put some useful stuff in there to help your subscribers find good content.

At least on the DirecTiVo they disappeared last year. And believe me, it was brought to my attention by the queen of TiVo my lovely wife. She used to use them.

So what is the story behind the removal of all useful Showcases? I used to use them to find shows to record. Now I don't even bother entering the Showcases screen.

Ditto. It was nice to get a short list of say comedies coming up in the next week or two without doing a full wishlist search that can return a large number of comedies. Or top directors or actors.
I considered this a very good value add and removal of it reduced the value of the TiVo service.

Agreed. I particularly liked the "opening night" selection that showed all of the series and season premiers. I miss it... at this point I'd like to remove the showcases entirely, they're just ads.

I miss my CNET Tips show for my S3. Fortunately I have the S2 in my bedroom so I can watch it there, but I'd like to watch it in my front room. :(

Amen to all the above. I also used to like the way Tivolution pointed out all the award-winning movies -- and some good movies that didn't win award and might be missed. Bummer. I hope they bring it back. And I hope they're listening to all tht we say here!

Well, if they are, they probably won't do anything. I don't think I've read anyone saying that they're going to trash their TiVo because the Showcases or TiVolution is gone. We'd all love the content, but does it really drive us to make purchases?

I want my Tivolution back!
It appears to be MIA, but perhaps those of us who liked it could try to get it back..
Go to: http://research.tivo.com/suggestions/
And fill out the survey something like this:
I wish my TiVo DVR could do this:
Provide a way to quickly get a view of upcoming shows grouped by categories such as "Classic Scifi" "Opening Night" or "Drama". It would then allow me to schedule recordings of these shows from this special guide. It could also integrate Tivo data like "Top Ten Actors" and display upcoming content with those actors.
Here is the reason why:*
This would allow me to quickly find shows that I may not have known existed or were coming on. Such functionality would greatly enhance my viewing pleasure. Basically, I want Tivolution Magazine or a better version back on my box!
If you liked Tivolution as much as I did, then it is worth a try...
