View Full Version : Random Pixellation after Install?

Hey. I just got my TIVO 3 up and running yesterday. It took the entire day, two tech visits, about 5 calls to Comcast until I found someone who was willing to work at it. There were two problems. They had configured my account wrong (finally I found someone who had just done a TIVO install in my area in the morning who knew how to do it--maybe just luck on the fifth call!). The other problem is that one of the cards just wouldn't work so they had to swap it out.

This is my first time using a TIVO. It's great so far. One problem is that I am noticing random pixellation on all stations. I checked the signal strength and it is in the mid 90s. Anyone else notice this sort of problem immediately after installing? Solution?

Other random newbie questions:

1. Can you choose to watch live TV off either tuner? I know you can test channels in the cable card menu off either card but I didn't find an option to choose the tuner for live TV.

2. TIVO records whatever channel you are watching so it can do it's thing with pause, etc. So if you are surfing it starts recording the channel immediately or does it wait a few seconds/minutes? And it just overwrites immediately on the hard drive when you change channels?

thx.

Well I've tried everything to get rid of this problem with no luck. I thoguht it might be the cables between the TIVO and my video processer but when I use the exact same cabling with my Comcast moto box i have no problem with the picture quality.

Signal strength is in mid 90s so the split of the signal inside the TIVO doesn't seem to be the problem.

To me it either has to be a prob with the cable cards or the TIVO tuners. The TIVO tech said he didn't think it was the cable cards since the problem is happening on all channels. I'm not sure if that is correct.

Any other thoughts before I return the TIVO and try to get another one?

BTW: the TIVO tech explained to me that you can switch from one tuner to the other when watching live TV by pushing the "live TV" button. I tried that but it did not make a difference in terms of the pixellation problem.
