View Full Version : S3 Installation "Primer" ?

I'm asking this question here in hopes of being directed to the answer elsewhere among these forums.

I expect to have my S3 delivered next week. Meanwhile, I figure to get in touch with Comcast (Nashville TN) to order cablecards. I'm weighing the merits of picking them up and installing them myself -v- scheduling their installer to do the job (who I'm betting will be relatlively clueless...)

I'm getting the sense that installing the cablecards and setting up the TiVo S3 is not as simple as setting up my old S1 was, and that there is a proper sequence of events to follow as to which elements should be installed and set up in what order. But I haven't been able to figure clearly from all the posts here just what the best sequence is.

So, I'm wondering, is there any kind of "primer" available, that will guide me through the proper sequence of steps to get my S3 up and running with the least amount of anguish?

Should be an interesting experience however it evolves... Thanks,

I may have just answered my own question, and, at the risk of cluttering these forums with unnecessary threads, will report that I found a link to
this page at the TiVo site (http://customersupport.tivo.com/LaunchContent.aspx?CID=90b67ec6-6d16-44a1-810e-337cbf223a14) which seems to spell out the proper sequence of events for getting started.

I have also found this page (http://customersupport.tivo.com/LaunchContent.aspx?CID=B03267A0-BE94-4F14-8E2C-8AE7B4EB5249) that walks through the steps involved in setting up the CableCARDS:

Still wondering, though if I should have a Comcast guy come out to install/set up the cards, or if I dare try to do that myself. Seems to me that there would be some merit to having THEIR guy talk to their people about activation, rather than trying to do that myself....

Thanks,

When your box comes it will have a sheet to hand to the installer. However if your really anxious go to the TiVo web site and you can find a copy of it there. Also there are several good topics on installation on this forum. The search is your friend.

Finally some really good and clear instructions. My recommendation is to follow the TiVo instructions above. This is pretty much what I did without having these instructions. The problem is waiting for the "gray" screen to come up. 5 minutes seems like an eternity and I think this is just an estimate, I would give it 15 minutes. Not sure what to do if you wait and never see it. Remember, it is the cable company either trying to figure out what they need to do on their end or they are really doing nothing hoping you will give up and subscribe to their DVR instead.
