OK, yes, the remote glowing buttons are pretty cool but my family already burned through a set of four batteries. Anyone know if there is a key sequence to turn off the back-light.

Hold down TiVo and Thumbs Down for a few seconds. (you can turn it back on by holding TiVo and Thumbs Up).

Sweet! Nice post, I've already got the buttons memorized so the backlighting is just wasting batteries for me too.

The backlight is one of my favorite features of the new remote. I got 100 Industrial Energizer AAA batteries on Ebay for $25 so it's not really an issue for me.

You will notice that the backlighting doesn't come on when it is bright in the room. If your room is always dark, then this doesn't help.

well at night if you leave it in your living room, wouldn't it be pitch black all night? :)

That would only mean anything if you stayed up all night tapping a button on it every couple of seconds. I can think of a better way to spend a night :)
