To make sure everything seems OK before the cable guy comes, I went through guided setup with no cable cards. All TiVo functions seem fine, but I appear to have no display at all on the S3 box itself. I started recording a show and expected the show title, along with the clock, to appear.

Did I miss something? The regular LEDs work just fine, and I have the clock set to 'Bright' in the settings menu.

I've upgraded all my other TiVos and am not afraid to dig in, so if it's just a matter of a (potentially) loose connection, I'll open 'er up and take a look.

Mine was loose on the inside, it popped in and no problems since. Take a look at megazone's site, you'll see pictures of where it connects:

When it boots, do you see the little TiVo-guy logo in the middle of the OLED? It also shows "Ready. Set. TiVo." while it's booting. If you don't see that either, it definitely sounds like something is not connected.

Well, unfortunately it was not as simple as a loose connection. There's only one ribbon cable going from the motherboard to the display panel. I reseated it on both ends but that didn't resolve the problem.

There is absolutely no OLED display at all. No TiVo guy, no clock, nothing.

I guess I'll just have to get it replaced... the perils of ordering online.

Do you have a Harmony remote that is turning unused equipment off? That will put the Tivo in standby mode and turn off the OLEDs.

Yeah, but I think he said he was seeing no display while the Tivo was running either. So unless he has the OLED display shut down in the menus this is not the problem.

I do not use a Harmony remote. And the OLEDs aren't even showing the boot up animation that windracer described above.

I was just going to make my own post about the front-panel display.

I've noticed after I've turned everything off (with my Harmony remote), the front panel doesn't display what's being recorded -- the the red lights illuminate that things are being recorded.

So this has something to do with my Harmony setup? Guess I need to make sure it's not set to turn off the TiVo?

I thought the front display was supposed to show a gauge indicating how full the hard drive is. I don't see that on mine.

I've heard about the gauge too. Don't see it on my either. How do you get this?

I've been following the development of the S3 for nearly two years, and I never remember hearing or reading anything about a "gauge".

No gauge. People confused the display of the output format as a disk space gauge.

It doesn't show the names of recording programs that are "Suggestions", it only shows the name of shows that you specifically asked to record. You can quickly test this by just hitting the record button on whatever you are watching, the name should then appear.
