LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Bob Barker is heading toward his last showcase, his final "Come on down."

The silver-haired daytime-TV icon is retiring in June, he told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

"I will be 83 years old on December 12," he said, "and I've decided to retire while I'm still young."

He'll hang up his microphone after 35 years as the host of "The Price Is Right" and 50 years overall in television.

I really hope they do 1 of 2 things.

1) End the Price is Right
2) Find a host that is willing to stick it out for a while.

Not like the mockery that Family Feud has become.....

I hope he makes the rounds at the Casino versions of the show. I initially thought thats what they did but then shortly realized thereafter that it's just a knockoff

Dang......if they cancel the show outright, then I guess there will be no more "The Dancing Boobs of the Price is Right" videos on youtube....... Oh well......

I hope they do just cancel PRICE IS RIGHT - won't be the same without Bob Barker.

I agree - would be another Family Fued mockery.

The new host should be a Cyborg Barker clone. Update all the games with fancy A/V effects and laser beams and Techno music. Losing contestants can be blasted with the cyborg's weaponry.

This I would watch.

I've wondered when this was going to happen. If BB dies without retiring from the show, it will be awkward for CBS to continue producing the show with a new host. However, they clearly want to keep the show going because it's so profitable. So getting BB to step down and replacing him with another host while he's still alive would at least make it seem that BB condones the continuation of the show and wouldn't be so awkward when he does pass away.

He sure did give his all, just ask some of the models on the show.

I was thinking kinda the same thing. I'd rather get closure on the whole thing than to wake up one morning to hear the news of Bob Barker's death.

I hope he'll do a few more of those awesome primetime specials before going though! Also, another thing that would be cool, would be a PIR Fairwell Tour. Give some people the chance to be on the show that don't get to go to California for the taping (ME, ME!)

I hope that on his last show he comes out with a sawed off shotgun and shoots the bidder who bids a few dollars LESS than the previous bid.

Some of those people are truly idiots!

They'll find someone who can be equally charismatic, I'm sure. I think, however, they need to take a year off and revamp the whole show. Come back with a brand new set and new games.

I think Bill Cullen hosted the original price is right. It was a completely different game though.

Heads up. The episode is in the guide data (6/15).But from everything I heard ...Bob plays his final show as if it's any other, even ending with his usual admonition to control the pet population.

Would you expect anything different? Not about the "pet" admonition, but about ...the audience, I would have expected something different. Only after the camera is turned off does Bob discuss his retirement, thanking the studio audience for letting him into their homes for 30 years. It was his decision when to make the comment, and I guess he's a modest and professional guy, so he chose not to discuss his last show during the taping, and instead waited for the show to end. I can't fault him for that, but it does mean for those tuning in just to watch the last episode, they'll simply see Bob "doing his thing"...

I wouldn't be surprised if...
CBS, or the producers, may have asked him not to mention that it was his "final" episode, and in turn Bob asked the audience not to act as if it was.
TPIR, unlike pretty much every other daytime game show (back when there was more than one), goes into reruns from June through September (which is one of the reasons they try not to mention dates whenever possible - for example, in Check Game, the checks are dated "Today, (year) Now", and in "Now or Then," Bob always says, "Now is today," without mentioning a date), but they never mention this on the air. In fact, over at Game Show Forum, there was speculation that Bob's last episode wouldn't air until early September (just before the new host's first show).
Personally, I can see one good thing that would come out of CBS cancelling TPIR (although considering the ratings it gets, almost certainly it won't - they'll give a new host some time to see if the ratings drop without Bob); from what I have heard, the only reason TPIR reruns (both the Barker and Cullen versions) no longer air on GSN is because the company that owns the rights to the episodes doesn't want them aired as long as the show is still on CBS, so once the show is cancelled, older TPIR reruns (except for episodes with fur coats, mind you) can be aired again.

If anyone is interested, I've noticed that the 6/15 episode airs at 8:00pm in addition to your regularly scheduled TPIR. :p

Man, I remember TPiR from when I was young... (it only started about 2 years prior to my birth).

It's like the only show I can remember growing up with, that's still on the air (or will be, for a few more days).

I don't think I can handle a new host on TPiR... it'll just be too much of a shock from watching all these years. Heck, when I was young, I always thought that "A New Car!" was one of the ultimate prizes. Now that I'm older and working, it's amazing how what was once a lot of money isn't that much anymore. But it's nice to know that the show has changed very little from when I watched it (it's probably one of the only shows during its lifetime where other than the pricing games, nothing much has changed - the layout of the set, the layout of the show, heck, even the sound effects are the same all these years).

I'd have to say Bob *WAS* TPiR, and more or less the sole reason why it continued to get such high ratings.

It also mentions that the actual name of the TPIR under Bob Barker was "The New Price is Right". They eventually dropped "New" ... ;)
