I am such a sap. I'm not sure an episode of this show has gone by without me crying. I just get so sucked in!

I saw how the Voodoo storyline would play out coming a mile away, but I don't think Coach could have made any other decision about who to start.

I hope that airing after Heroes gives the show a bit of a boost. I'm enjoying it quite a lot and I hope it sticks around for a while.

Still my favorite show of the new season and I'm no football fan. Crossing my fingers that it stays on.

Yeah... every single plot point in this show was as obvious as a tree falling on your house. Except the wheelchair rugby scene: I didn't see that coming. Even the investigation into VooDoo's eligibility was obvious as far back as the first he appeared in.

But, I still like this show. I didn't watch it until after the Pats were done of course, but I watched it the same night, which is something. Still wish S60 would stay too, though...

I still think this is a good show. I like football. I'm from Texas. Maybe that's a big part of what keeps me wanting to watch the show and to like the show.

What the hell was the deal with the waitress and the guy from L.A.?? What was the point of that story?

It's gonna suck if they have to forfeit that win. What a block from Matt!! Great stuff for a young QB.

"That's a bunch of overheated jocks too dumb to know they have no future fighting over a game that has no meaning in a town from which there is no escape."

If they end up forfeiting the win it still might be an overall positive because it'll go a long way to getting the town assh*les off the coach's back.

No, they'll just stick all the blame on the coach. It's his responsibility, after all, to make sure his players are eligible. He forfeited that responsibility to Mr. Used Car Dealer, and that's going to cost him dearly.

While Lyla looks almost young enough to be in high school, Tyra looks like she was left back a grade about 10 times.* :D I think the point of Tyra's hookup with the investment banker was to show that she'll do anything that might get her out of Dillon.

*Minka Kelly (Lyla) was born in 1980. Adrianne Palicki (Tyra) was born in 1983. So Tyra is actuall YOUNGER than Lyla!

Aimee Teegarden (Julie, the coach's daughter) was born in 1989, so she's almost the same age as her character.

IMHO, Tami (Connie Britton), who was born in 1968, is way hotter than all of them. :)

BTW, Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) was born in 1965. So he and Connie are actually old enough to be Julie's parents for real.

I think this was the best episode yet. It didn't suffer from the problem the other ones had, where the first half was kinda boring and slow-moving. This one felt nicely paced and well written.

And I'll +1 the comment about the waitress. What was the point of that? It didn't even intersect with any other characters or plots.

I think they just had to give her something to do since she had broken up with drunk guy and he's now sleeping with cute cheerleader girl. I got the impression it's a story that's going to build over time, if the series lasts long enough.

The actress that plays Lyla is 26??? Woo hoo!! :D

And I feel like a dope for not recognizing Tyra as the waitress. I thought she was a non-high school kid from the comment she made about the other waitress being too young to work that late. (plus, she really doesn't look like a high school kid)

I didn't see it either. She looked like a brand-new character to me.

I think she was implying that the other waitress was too OLD to work that late, hence the "Murder She Wrote marathon" comment.

True though, it's like they completely reset the Tyra character from football groupie slut to sappy waitress, and it didn't work for me. None of that storyline added anything to the show; it's as if they needed some filler for the ep.

I don't see what any girl, especially Lyla, would see in Tim Riggins. It's not as if he's a "bad boy" - he's just depressing.

My favorite moment was when Saracen woke up and felt & saw his bruises from the night before, and smiled......

I'm not sure she sees much him other some to sleep with. When he started to ask her questions about school, she really blew him off.

My wife and I were talking about this lastnight. Do we know if Tyra is in high school still? I can't recall actually seeing anything that shows she is in high school. She hangs out with some of the high school kids but she could already be out of high school and just still have ties to them.

I really like this show, and enjoyed the episode. I could really feel for the coach's dilemna. Having played HS sports, I remember seeing coaches have that same problem- do i start the kid who has better talent but is a jacka** and who could potentially F things up, or start the guy who has less talent but does everything ever asked of him? I think it was also pretty realistic that Coach was willing to swallow his anger and yell at him up but not bench him, until Voodoo put his hand on him in the locker room. Shoot, you ever put a hand on a coach, even if its just to get him out of your face, that's a death wish where I came from. And i primarily wrestled in HS, only played football for 1 year, but there are a lot of similarities in how the athletes are treated in both sports.

I really like how they're doing this show.

Good show with great acting.

Totally agree. The coach, wife and Saracen are the highlights of this show. But the rest of the cast is incredible too.

I am just disappointed that we are 4 or 5 episodes in and they have not fixed the camera issues. I just don't like that stylized jumpy handheld camera thing they seem to be doing.

Not bloody likely. Did you notice how Buddy immediately (and not very subtly) passed the buck to the coach on Voodoo's eligibility once the investigators showed up? And Buddy is the ringleader of the a-hole contingent in Dillon, er, I mean "boosters."

I wonder how long the team stays rallied around Saracen... they basically didn't buy into Saracen at all until Voodoo showed up and started playing like he was T.O. around the team, and once Voodoo's out of the picture Saracen will be back in the hot seat.

Of all the network shows I watch, I expected this to be the one I'd grow tired of first, but it's gotten steadily better. It's a little sappy in places, but I appreciate that at least there are some dareker sidse to human nature being explored, and not just silver-lining nonsense.

I kind of expected the Voodoo storyline to go a few more episodes, but it was pretty obvious where it was headed.

if he keeps playing like he did in the second half of that game, they will have no issues with him. He really had a great game, including a well executed final drive with the clock running down to score the touchdown that led to the victory. Stuff like that will give people a lot of faith and confidence in a QB. Yeah, I know it's all scripted but as long as they keep scripting stuff like that, then the people will still love him. winning goes a long, long way.

Any poker fans watch this show? I was watching some poker yesterday and Matt Saracen bears an uncanny resemblance to Huck Seed.

I love this show and want it to succeed, but I'm having a problem with the pre-season #1 team in the state being 2-1 and pulling both wins out of their a$$e$ on the final play (and losing by falling just short on the final play). They weren't even winning game one with Street. I know it's more dramatic but not every game can come down to the wire.

It is believable to me given that they were number 1 preseason but lost there star quarterback in the first game. The QB was a big reason they were number 1 I am sure.

But they had him for game one (until the end) and were still losing.

Again, it's not so much that they are only 2-1, it's that all three games have been decided on the final play.

I really enjoy the show and hope some how it can survive. The only parts I don't like is some of the extra fluff like tyra. When the show is about football and related stuff like recruiting ect the show is top notch.

To give a little perspective... The current number one high school football team in Texas won their game last night 45 - 7 - and that was considered a good match up. They beat the number one Louisianna team 43-16. The closest a game has been this season... 45-21.

So yeah, I don't buy that this is the number one team in Texas and they have to fight to the very end to win it.

This show is growing on me. I was ready to give it up after the first 2 eps but I decided to give it one more shot this weekend with a 3 episode mini-marathon.

I'm glad I stuck around. This show is getting better each week! The coach is finally showing some emotion and they are doing a good job of fleshing out the main characters.

It can be a bit cheesy at times. However, as a former Oklahoma HS football player, I can say from experience that these cheesy moments are pretty realistic.

I really enjoyed the QB controversy part of this episode. The Coach did a great job showing us how tough it was to make this decision. And the halftime blowup was awesome. I almost cheered out loud for the coach sending that punk on his way.

I was pretty annoyed with the paralyzed QB storyline for a bit but I like what they are doing with it. I was thinking it would be wheelchair basketball instead of rugby though.

I'm glad I kept the SP for this show. It's quickly becoming a top-5 for me!

I think in the show, Street called it "quad rugby." Was that a goof or is that what it's really called? I mean, they're paraplegics not quadriplegics, right?

I have "Murderball" in my Netflix queue but haven't gotten to it yet.

ced6
11-06-2006, 03:39 PM
No - it's called quad rugby. I'm not sure why, but I do know that many of the players do have issues with their arms (for example, they can't use their fingers, etc.). So, they may not be quadripalegics in the Christopher Reeve sense, but are quadripalegics in the technical sense (perhaps someone who knows more on the subject can fill in how this works?).

What is interesting is that the documentary shows that each player is given a point level based on where on the spine their injury is and the mobility they have. Basically, the more impaired your upper body movement is, the lower your number. Each team is only allowed a certain number of points on the playing field at once. Makes for an additional interesting level of strategy.

Ooh, I thought I was the only one!! Just the other night I told my bf I thought Saracen is cute, then I thought it about it some more and started backtracking by adding words like "adorable" in case he turned out to be less than 21. That night I zoomed straight to IMDB and let out a big sigh of relief that I didn't have to feel guilty anymore.
