So - like many people here, I'm having my share of problems with the HR10-250. The OTA audio issues, as well as some screwy "incomplete" recordings and Fast Forwarding snafus. total mess, and i'm getting frustrated with it - But on the whole I still like it, and want to keep it around as long as possible. If I want to upgrade to a larger hard drive, am I wasting my money/time/effort doing this on the HR10? Will I still be using it one year from now, or will D* force a new one on me through the need to grab mpeg-4 hd programming (will i even still be able to get hd programming that the hr10 can record OTA next year?) Any fortune tellers out there?
thanks for all input - this forum never disappoints... :)

I'm operating under the assumption that my HR10 will still be in use a year from now. But what do you really have to lose? At worst, you have a big disk drive you can use somewhere else.

You need to take into consideration that only those users that are having problems report them here. Those not having problems with 6.3 don't usually say that. I will say that. I am not having the multitude of problems with 6.3a that many have reported.
In my case, I'll be using the HR10 for quite some time since DirecTV won't have my locals for a long time (SD or HD). And then when they are available, chances are good that not all of them will be in HD anyway (or even available), because they will be on a subchannel of a current station. I'll be depending on OTA. But, even there I won't get all stations in HD either.

mib66,
Do yourself a favor and re-install the older 3.15f software on a new bigger drive. You won't be sorry. You can download the 3.15f image from instantcake for $20 and install it in about 20 minutes on any computer with an IDE cable and CD rom.
After it's done loading the software, you simply pop in the new drive in the TIVO and do a CLEAR AND DELETE EVERYTHING and you're good to go with a stable version and a clean version. Although the software is a tad slower, you won't really notice it, especially if you upgrade to a bigger HD. I put in 400 GB seagate and I haven't had any issues since.
Save your old drive with 6.3a on it, and when any if they ever come out with a fix, you can swap hard drives again and let it update to the newer version.
