View Full Version : 3.1.5 (no f) - Am I missing anything?

I did a rebuild to upgrade my hard drive after 6.3a was installed. I used an older InstantCake image that is the original 3.1.5 software without any of the incremental releases (3.1.5d, 3.1.5e...).

With the problems being experienced with 6.3a, I'd rather stay on the 3.1.5 code right now. Am I missing any bug fixes or features of significance by having 3.1.5 instead of 3.1.5f?

Thanks

Probably not. There were some minor bugs fixed that may have no effect on you. One that comes to mind was the problem that the OTA signal strength meter would not work if only one satellite cable was connected to the HR10-250. There were also problems with using the optical audio cable to an external amp.

No, but you may be able to get back some of the back-door tricks...The rez trick was
particulary useful....with it, you could see the rez of the picture being sent.....
Press "select," "play," "select," "instant replay," "select" and then the info appears in white text at the bottom of the screen. For example it will show HBO at 1920x1088i, 16:9, 29.97fps. HD-Net(now) shows up as 1280x1088i. To get rid of the white text you enter the sequence again and then go to the DirecTV Central and back. It will even give you the resolution on the Tivo recordings. " Don't know for sure if it was on this version or not, but
seems like it was.

Hey, thanks! The resolution worked for me 3.1.5 ( zippered)

Another reason not to upgrade to 6.3

What would be really interesting to know is if you have any OLDER recordings
(pre H/D Lite era), and compare the current rez of that channel..what the
differance in PQ is..if any??(as noted the back door works on recorded material) :D

I dont have any old recordings as I used this version when I zippered it earlier this year, when my hard drive started failing.

What is interesting is that on Desperate Housewives, channel 86 is showing 1280x720p at 59.94 fps and my OTA is showing 1920x1080i at 29.97fps and the OTA is actually a bit better. I have the Tivo output set at 720P because that is native resolution on my Sammy. I tried 1080i output but did not notice a difference.

It is interesting that the D* provided HD channels are 1280x720p and 1280x1088i.

Yes, even more evidence that H/D lite is alive and well on D* :(
Just goes to show that OTA signals are still best..let us know if you "bump" into
a channel via D* that is higher than 1280 will you? And be aware that if you should decide to bump up to a later version(like 3.1f,) you will lose this back-door.

My guess is this hack was removed at DirecTV's request. Having it makes it easy to document HD-Lite, as you note.

Thanks all. Sounds like I can just sit tight until 6.3b is (hopefully) released.
